Boxing Odds - Adonis Stevenson vs. Andrzej Fonfara Jr. Preview, Predictions and Picks

2017-Boxing-Adonis-Stevenson-vs.-Andrzej-Fonfara-betting-Odds

This Saturday’s rematch between WBC champion Adonis Stevenson and Andrzej Fonfara is an odd one. Although Fonfara did better than expected when they met in Montreal in May 2014, there really isn’t a reason for the champ to face Fonfara - who lost to Joe Smith in his last outing.

Many are saying that Stevenson is ducking mandatory challenger Eleider Alvarez, who accepted a step-aside deal for Stevenson to take the bout. Whatever the case, Stevenson is a massive favorite in the boxing odds at BookMaker.eu.

Andrzej Fonfara +700
Adonis Stevenson -1050

Odds Analysis

Stevenson opened as high as -2300, but now is a much more manageable - yet still expensive - at -1050. In the same time, Fonfara has gone from +1100 to +700. I can’t imagine too many people betting on Fonfara, so the movement was probably to coax more bets on Stevenson. Still, as more than 10-1 favorite, you’re going to have to put in a lot on the champ to get a little.

Fight Breakdown

The first time these heavyweights met, both men hit the deck. However, the rest of the fight wasn’t very close, as Stevenson took an easy 115-110, 115-110 and 116-109 on the scorecards.

A flash knockout in the ninth for Fonfara turned the momentum in what had been a blowout, with Stevenson looking gassed. But the WBC champ redeemed himself with a strong showing from Rounds 10-12.

This time around, Stevenson will be much more prepared. It’s highly unlikely that he punches himself out knowing how much damage Fonfara can take. With a little better pacing, it should be a lot easier as it was clear that he was the better overall boxer.

Though Stevenson is 39, he’s shown little sign of slowing down and comes into the matchup on a 15-fight win streak - with three of his last four victories coming by way of stoppage. While he might not be as spry as he used to be, he’s still got plenty of KO power to work with.

Fonfara is coming off a win over Chad Dawson, but prior to that he was obliterated by Joe Smith in a tilt for the international title. That loss to Smith was especially harmful to the respect he earned by putting Stevenson on the mat. Still, he owns some decent wins over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Nathan Cleverly and Doudou Ngumbu.

How You Should Bet

Let’s not kid around here, the pick is Stevenson to win. Fonfara is outmatched and outgunned here - he got lucky with a flash knockout late in their first round and it likely won’t happen again here. Because Stevenson is so expensive, consider a bet on the round total as well. The over is much more affordable and is a good pick.

Boxing odds pick: Stevenson to win at -1050
