NBA Thursday, February 29, 2024 Parlay Picks

Every four years or thereabout we get an additional day added on to the calendar and it’s a gift for sports bettors. Leap day falls on Thursday with February 29 giving us eight games on the NBA schedule to make a NBA parlay. Some of the top teams in the league have the day off but that doesn’t mean the matchups won’t be worth watching or wagering on. Have the Milwaukee Bucks got used to Doc Rivers being their head coach? After stumbling since making the change the Bucks came out of the All-Star break with a pair of wins and paydays showing off a defense that made the coaching change necessary in the first place. The Bucks look to continue their surge taking on Charlotte in the second of a home and home.

Out west the Oklahoma City Thunder forged a tie atop the conference standings with five straight wins and payouts. OKC has emerged as the most profitable team in the NBA with a cover rate of 64.3 percent through their first 57 games. They also matched their win total from a season ago with a 123-110 triumph over Houston on Sunday. The Thunder have owned Thursday’s opponent San Antonio winning both previous meetings by a combined average of 31 points. A couple of interconference matchups highlight TNT’s doubleheader with New York hosting Golden State in the opener followed by a rematch of last season’s NBA Finals when the Heat visit Denver.

I was so excited about last week’s NBA parlay winning the first three legs of my four-team bet only to have the Lakers piss away a nice payday in their loss to Golden State. It really bothers me that LeBron James is well enough to play in the All-Star Game but can’t take the court with his team battling for a playoff spot against a team they are contending with. We’ll never know if his presence would have meant a different outcome, but the Lakers certainly missed their scoring leader in a 128-110 loss.

The Bucks went 3-7 in their first 10 games under Doc Rivers with embarrassing losses to Portland, Utah and Memphis. One of their successes was a 120-84 demolition of the Hornets where they easily covered the 16-point spread. The Bucks also won by 31 points in Charlotte back in November and with them playing better and grasping the new style I like the Bucks to continue their onslaught against a club that’s struggled all season.

Past results don’t guarantee future success, but when one team is just that much better we tend to see stark results. Much like Milwaukee against its Thursday opponent, the Thunder have throttled San Antonio in two previous meetings. One thing that will help is that both my picks are on the road with the spread reflective of that. And both Milwaukee and OKC are decent road team giving the confidence to back them as part of my NBA parlay.

Playing at home against one of the worst teams in the NBA, the Lakers will be laying plenty of points to the Washington Wizards. Sunday’s loss to Cleveland extended Washington’s skid to 11 in a row and the chance of them upsetting LA is slim, but the Wiz have proven to be one of the best road cover teams with payouts in 62.1 percent of their games. And honestly I don’t trust the Lakers so backing the visitors plus a hefty amount of points makes this a solid wager.
