NBA Friday, January 26 Parlay Picks

The Milwaukee Bucks made headlines earlier this week and it wasn’t for what they did on the court. Just 43 games into his first season as head coach and boasting the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, the club fired Adrian Griffin. There were a lot of expectations heaped on the Bucks after the blockbuster deal that landed Damien Lillard. And while the club was 30-13, the defense slipped after being one of the best in the NBA last season. The Bucks will move forward with a new coach possibly in place when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers in one of eight games on the slate for Friday, January 26.

Do recent developments make the Bucks worthy of backing in a NBA parlay? Prior to the coaching change the Bucks swept a pair of games from the NBA worst Detroit Pistons, though they failed to cover the double-digit spread both times extending their ATS losing streak to five games with just one payout in their last 11. If you’re looking to back a team on the NBA betting line as part of your NBA parlay the Oklahoma City Thunder are worth a look. They finished a road trip with impressive wins over the red-hot Jazz and West leading Timberwolves earning the cash both times. They are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games and boast the best cover percentage in the NBA at 68.3. Luckily for us OKC is at New Orleans on Friday night.

Boy the NBA has my number through the first half of the season. It’s hard to hit parlays consistently but this is ridiculous. I lost another one last week going ohfer on the two games that were played. I thought the Celtics would be ready for Denver but that didn’t pan out. Laying 7-points Boston lost at home for the first time. And I miscalculated the progress the Lakers made, or didn’t make. They got blasted at home by the Nets. In the end it didn’t matter that the Dallas-Golden State game was postponed though it likely prevented me from losing all three bets.

I’m starting to feel better about Phoenix after their six-game winning streak. They have only two payouts in that span but they are learning how to act like a contender now that the roster is in shape and the money will soon start rolling in. The Suns visit the Pacers, a team they beat 117-110 during their streak. And they’ve been much sharper on the defensive end not allowing more than 117 points in any of the six games. The defensive intensity coupled with guys that can score the basketball against a team that gives up a lot, I’ll back Phoenix against the line in this one.

I talked about OKC earlier and their ability to earn the money as the most profitable team in the NBA. They lost earlier in the season to the Pelicans but they realize at this point that they belong among the top four in the West. The starters all average more than 11 points with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way with 31.1 per game and Lou Dort and Chet Holmgren anchor a defense that ranks second in opponent field goal percentage. That’s enough for me to back the Thunder against the line.

A matchup between the two worst teams in the West won’t draw a lot of attention, but when those teams can’t play defense there’s a good chance points will follow. The Spurs yield nearly 122 points per game, the worst number in the West, but they offset the liability with the play of Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs cashed the OVER in a third straight game losing to Philly 133-123 on Monday night giving them one of the best OVER rates in the NBA at nearly 60 percent. And did I say both teams consider defense optional? I did, which is why my winning NBA parlay will have this game going over the total.
