NBA Friday, February 2 Parlay Picks

For the first time in several months there’s a weekend with no professional or college football, but that doesn’t mean sports wagering opportunities are also taking time off. Nope, instead the NBA gets the weekend started with a 10-game slate on Friday, Feb. 2 with the scorching hot LA Clippers and West leading Minnesota Timberwolves in action. As part of their two-wee, seven-game road trip, the Clips make a stop in the Motor City for a showdown with the NBA worst Detroit Pistons. The Clips saw their five-game SU and ATS winning streak end with a 118-108 loss to Cleveland on Monday and could be getting weary with Friday’s contest their fifth in the current trip. Still, LA is 22-5 SU and 18-9 ATS since the beginning of December.

The Clippers will by laying plenty of points their matchup with Detroit and this could be a letdown spot for them making the Pistons a team to consider on a NBA parlay. Other teams to consider are Oklahoma City and Orlando. They are currently the only clubs with a better than 61 percent cover rate, though they’ve struggled recently. The Thunder suffered an embarrassing 120-104 loss at Detroit when favored by 12.5-points. They were upset at home by Minnesota the following night. After a torrid start to the season the Magic have cooled. A 131-120 loss to Dallas on Monday was their eighth in 11 games, though they do have five payouts in those games. OKC hosts Charlotte while Orlando visits Minnesota.

It seems as though the teams on my NBA parlays do the exact opposite of what I expect them to do. Last week was no exception. Phoenix was starting to look like a terror in the West with six straight wins only to get knocked down a peg by the Pacers. Of course I backed the Suns as a 4.5-point favorite. And for the only time this season the Spurs decided to play defense in their 116-100 win over Portland keeping the total below the number. At least OKC prevented a winless week easily covering the 1.5-point line in a 107-83 thrashing of New Orleans.

I gave some reasons why the Clippers could stumble against Detroit but there are also reasons why they shouldn’t. If the club wants to remove the loser label this is a game they need to show the West and NBA they mean business. Their recent surge put them 15 games over .500 and within two games of the West lead. Their four alphas are working together with a collective goal in mind and as long as they stay healthy they could be a problem come April.

I mentioned OKC and their success against the spread. Charlotte is at the other end with the second worst cover rate in the NBA. The Thunder have proven they belong at the top of the West standings now they have to back that up with solid play against teams they should beat. OKC has a dynamic young roster led by Shai Gilgeous Alexander, who averages 31.3 points and shoots 54.7 percent from the field. They will put their mini-slump behind them with a cover win.

Orlando may be struggling right now but they still possess a strong defense and they play another strong defensive club in Minnesota. Both rely on the stop unit and haven’t put up a lot of points this season so it makes sense that the UNDER is a likely play. The betting markets adjust so expect a low total, but even then the clubs have a better chance of staying below the number.
