Two of three NL West squads sporting sub .500 records will attempt to pull closer to even on Saturday night when the Colorado Rockies invade Petco looking to hand the San Diego Padres yet another defeat in front of their hometown fans.

You can bet on MLB odds at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.

ODDS ANALYSIS

As big an advantage Coors Field plays to for the Rockies, you’d expect Walt Weiss’s squad to excel there and have more of an issue winning ball games when installed the visitor. That however hasn’t been the case, and the main reason why – per usual – is the inability for most pitchers to excel in the thin air. Colorado’ staff ERA on the road is pretty good, but when in the supposed comforts of their own ballpark, it’s sky high.

Because of it, the Rockies find themselves in the red $492 against the moneyline at home but up a healthy $642 when on the road.

It hasn’t mattered where the Padres have played – they stink! Now 13 games under .500 overall, the Friars have managed to play just .357 ball on the road (-$310) and win just 10 of their 25 games played in front of the hometown faithful (-$243)

PROBABLE PITCHERS

Making his 12th start of the season for the Rockies will be right-hander Chad Bettis. Far from possessing overpowering stuff, Bettis has put forth a decent campaign out of the fourth slot of the Rockies rotation. That said, he’s been creamed over his last two starts in conceding a combined 15 hits and 13 ERs to the Red Sox and Reds. Before that though, he tossed 6.2 innings of 1 ER ball at the Cardinals in St. Louis, so he has shown to be a viable arm in spurts this season.

Opposing the righty for the Padres will be Andrew Cashner who will be making his third start since returning from the DL in hopes of putting an end to his current personal three-game losing streak. In the two starts prior, he limited the Giants to just 4 hits and 3 ER through six innings, and followed it up with another quality effort against Seattle with 6 hits and 3 ER allowed. Both outings occurred on the road. This will be just his sixth Petco start where he checks in 2-2 with a bloated 4.33 ERA and .255 batting average against.

LIVE BETTING

If the Rockies are to truly ever become a bona fide contender in the NL West, it’s going to have to figure out how to defeat one of the worst teams in the majors on a consistent basis.

These teams have already met six times this season, and the Rox have not a one series victory to throw their hat on. They dropped two of three at home to the Padres at the beginning of the season, and then lost the series in their first trek to Petco in early May.

Over the last 20 meetings between these division rivals, the Padres own a 13-7 advantage and they’ve already won four of the six confrontations played this season.

QUICK PICK

Of the 15 games slated to go on Saturday, this matchup could produce the least amount of interest. Still, it’s a game Nolan Arenado and company must have to at the very least remain in striking distance of both the Giants and Dodgers for division honors.

Bettis has loved throwing in Petco where he’s yet to qualify for a decision, but has pitched to a 2.53 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over two starts. He’s also 2-0 lifetime against the Padres’ sticks in limiting them to a .207 BAA.

Cashner has been nothing but a disappointment since coming to San Diego via the Cubs, and he’s had absolutely no luck against the Rockies who’ve peppered him to the tune of a 5.87 ERA and .332 BAA. While he’s looked halfway decent since returning from the DL, I don’t expect him to toss a third straight quality effort in this one.

MLB Odds: Rockies 6, Padres 2
