NCAA Baseball Odds - Florida vs. Texas CWS Preview

2018 College World Series Florida vs Texas Odds

The top-seeded Florida Gators dropped their opener in the College World Series, and are now one loss away from failing to defend their national championship. Florida hopes to advance to the next round of the loser’s bracket but have a tough matchup on Tuesday against the Texas Longhorns.

Florida is the No. 1 national seed and will be the favorite but Texas is No. 13 nationally and certainly has the talent to move on. The Gators were one of the teams with the best odds to win the championship in this tournament, but things can change quickly with the double-elimination format.

Florida still has enough talent to bounce back and compete in its bracket but the Gators have their backs against the wall in this matchup with the Longhorns. One more bad game will result in the end of the road for both teams in College Baseball wagering.

The College World Series contest will be held at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska. The game will take place on Tuesday, June 19th, 2018, at 2 p.m. ET. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

Odds Analysis

The Gators have been listed as the -185 favorite to win this game and stay alive at the College World Series. Texas is the underdog but not a huge one, as the Longhorns will pay out at +145 if they manage to pull off the upset.

Florida is +100 to cover the -1.5 run spread, while Texas is being wagered on at -140 to lose this game by one run or win it outright.

The scoring total is listed at 8.5 runs, as the oddsmakers believe the pitching staffs will do a nice enough job at keeping the offenses in check.

Last Time Out

Florida was hoping to get off to a quick start but instead fell to Texas Tech by a score of 6-3 in its opening round contest. The Gators had an early 1-0 lead but the Red Raiders answered with the next five runs to grab control.

Florida scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to crawl to within a pair of runs but would get no closer. Brady Singer gave up five runs in 6.1 innings of work but only two of those were earned as the defense let him down.

Nelson Maldonado led the way on offense, finishing 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.

Texas dropped its first game of the College World Series to a talented Arkansas team by a score of 11-5. The Longhorns held a 2-1 lead after the top of the fifth but the Razorbacks exploded from there, scoring two runs in the fifth and a whopping eight in the sixth to cruise to the win.

The Texas bullpen had a host of problems as three different relievers failed to record an out in Arkansas’ big inning. The Longhorns need to get some better pitching in the game against Florida, but it’s concerning that so many hurlers had to participate in high-stress situations.

Free College World Series ATS Picks

Florida is going to have an uphill battle making it back to the national championship series, but the season isn’t going to end here. Look for the Gators’ bats to wake up as Texas will go home wondering what happened to its pitching staff.

Take Florida to pick up this win, as it is safe to choose the Gators on the moneyline as well as against the 1.5-run spread. The “over” is the easy choice as there will be more scoring than projected in this matchup. The Longhorns had a nice season but this will be the end of the road for them.

MLB ATS Pick: Florida Gators 7, Texas Longhorns 4
