The 2019-2020 PGA Tour season will feature an expanded schedule and some adjustments to the schedule because of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. There will be a total of 49 FedExCup tournaments, with 46 of those events taking place between September 2019 and November 2020. There will be two new events, the Zozo Championship and the Bermuda Championship and there will actually be a “bye” week on the schedule in late July because of the Summer Olympics.
Event: Puerto Rico Open
Course: Coco Beach Golf Course, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico
Course Lengths: 7,569 yards
Defending Champion: Martin Trainer
Tournament Record: -21 (Chesson Hadley, 2014)
Golfers who don’t qualify for the WGC event in Mexico have an option to play an alternate event, the Puerto Rico Open. It is the only PGA Tour Event held in Puerto Rico and it is a good chance for players to get their first PGA Tour win, because none of the top players in the world are in the field. The event was first played in 2008 and it is played at the Coco Beach Golf Course in Rio Grande. The winner of this event does get FedEx Cup points and some other perks like entry into the Players Championship and a two year PGA Tour exemption, but there is no Masters invite. Martin Trainer is the defending champion.
