UFC 247: Jon Jones Meets Undefeated Dominick Reyes
Like Thanos, Jon Jones is inevitable. Any light heavyweight that has aims of being a champion must face Bones - the man many considered to be the MMA GOAT. On February 8, the undefeated Dominick Reyes will attempt to become the first man to legitimately beat the future Hall of Famer. The title match headlines UFC 247 in Houston, Texas.

Reyes is facing long odds: the UFC odds at BookMaker.eu opened with Jones as a -440 favorite, with the challenger at +350 on the comeback. The champion is effectively undefeated, with the only blemish on his 25-1 record coming on a DQ in a fight he was seconds away from winning. It’s been a bumpy ride outside the octagon, but his dominance inside it can’t be denied - he’s dispatched every 205-pounder of note for more than a decade.
Reyes’ 12-0 record pales in comparison to his opponent’s, but he’s notched notable victories over Jared Cannonier, Ovince St. Preux, Volkan Oezdemir and most recently, Chris Weidman. In the thin light heavyweight division, that’s enough to earn a title shot these days. It also helps that Reyes is the type of big, athletic fighter that Jones has had issues with in the past.
In the co-main event, flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko will defend her title against Katlyn Chookagian. Shevchenko is widely considered the most dominant champion today, seemingly miles ahead of anyone else in her division. Our online oddsmakers will likely make her a massive favorite, as she’s schooled every flyweight put in front of her. Chookagian comes into the matchup with a two-fight win streak, benefitting from fighting in the UFC’s newest, most shallowest weight class.
The rest of the card features some excellent fights: Derrick Lewis should be an overwhelming crowd favorite fighting in his hometown. Andrea Lee has the charisma to be a star, and Mirsad Bektic and Jimmie Rivera are legitimate title contenders as well.
The card is still being filled out, but we’ll keep you updated as more contests get added to the card. Make sure to check in during fight week for in-depth online betting previews. UFC Betting Odds from BookMaker.eu are typically released on Monday before each event - though big fight bookings are usually available much earlier. Live MMA betting is also available to hedge any of your bets as well.

Jon Jones has been schooling his fellow lightweights so long that most of his fights are typically seen as nothing more than stay-busy fights. What makes this so intriguing is that his last matchup with Thiago Santos was a genuine nailbiter that made him looked more vulnerable than he ever has. Was it just an off night, or is Jones finally starting to slip? Reyes is certainly a dangerous opponent if the future Hall of Famer is starting to decline. His long frame and explosive power could make this interesting.
Coincidentally, Shevchenko seems to be entering the same stratosphere as Jones in his prime: she seems to be light years ahead of the competition. Chookagian just seems like a warm body for the champ to practice her skills against. It’s tough to see how the challenger makes this remotely competitive, but perhaps we’ll be treated to an all-time upset? Just don’t bet on it.
Derrick Lewis’ cinderella run at the heavyweight title might be in the rearview mirror, but there will always be a place for a one-hitter quitter in the big man division. After a bounce-back win against Blagoy Ivanov, “The Black Beast” gets another confidence building scarp welcoming Ilir Latifi to heavyweight. It’ll be interesting to see how Lewis deals with a 5’10” heavyweight.
