Yunier Dorticos vs. Mairis Briedis Betting

When: Saturday, March 21, 2020

Where: Arena Riga, Riga, Latvia

Why: IBF and The Ring Cruiserweight belt; World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight Final

Yunier Dorticos vs. Mairis Briedis Betting Odds

There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this bout, but Briedis is likely to be favored as he is rated the better boxer by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board. He will also have the advantage of fighting on home soil.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, if Briedis opens as a -300 favorite in this bout, you have to bet $300 on him to win $100 in profit. Those odds would probably lead to Dorticos being a +250 underdog, so a $100 bet on him would return $250 in profit if he were to pick up the win.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Yunier Dorticos vs. Mairis Briedis Preview

Dorticos made it to the podium four times at the Cuban national championships from 2005 to 2008, but he could never get past gold medalists Yusiel Napoles and Julio Cesar La Cruz. Shortly after his last attempt to win the national championships, he defected to the United States and began his career as a professional boxer in August 2009.

The KO Doctor wasted no time showing his skill in south Florida, knocking out eight of his first ten opponents in the first round. Dorticos continued to rack up knockouts in each of his first 17 fights, eventually winning the WBC Latino Cruiserweight belt and WBA Fedalatin Cruiserweight title.

He ran his record to 22-0 before suffering his first defeat. In the World Boxing Super Series semifinals two years ago, he was knocked out in the 12th round by Murat Gassiev. His impressive performance earned him another invitation to the World Boxing Super Series though, and he has won his previous two fights to reach the final. Dorticos won a unanimous decision over Mateusz Masternak, and he knocked out Andrew Tabiti in June 2019.

The Latvian Punisher has been a pro for the same amount of time as Dorticos, so there will be no major experience advantage one way or the other. He won the IBA Cruiserweight title in November 2013 by stopping Lubos Suda in the fifth round, and he defeated Joey Vegas the following year to claim the WBC Baltic Cruiserweight belt.

Briedis eventually claimed the WBC and IBO Cruiserweight titles by beating Marco Huck in Germany on April Fool’s Day in 2017, but he lost his titles in January 2018 against Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk won a majority decision in a tough bout, and he was the first undisputed Cruiserweight champion in the history of the division.

He has won his last three bouts prior to this fight. Briedis beat Brandon Deslaurier and Noel Gevor by unanimous decision, and he knocked out Krzysztof Glowacki in the third round in June.
