The welterweight division has had its fair share of great Russian fighters and another Russian will win a belt in this class when Radzhab Butaev takes on Alexander Besputin. Besputin (13-0 with nine knockouts) is a slight favorite over Butaev (12-0 with nine knockouts) by the boxing betting odds, but this figures to be a very tough test for both boxers. Besputin’s track record is a little better than Butaev’s, and that’s why he is favored ahead of this bout. Both fighters have been very impressive though, leading to their meeting for the vacant WBA Welterweight Championship.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, you would need to bet $165 on Besputin to win $100 at these boxing odds. However, if you believe that Butaev has the upper hand, a $100 bet on the underdog would earn you $135.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

WBA Welterweight Championship

Alexander Besputin turned pro in December 2015, and this will be his first major title fight. He had no trouble with any of his first five opponents, winning each bout by knockout before finally being taken the distance in his sixth fight. That seasoned him for a bout with 20-0 Juan Ruiz in November 2017, and he established himself as one of the best prospects in the division by knocking out Ruiz.

Besputin won his next three fights by knockout, culminating in the Russian winning the vacant USBA Welterweight Title over Alan Sanchez in Fresno last year. He beat the 20-3-1 Sanchez by TKO, showcasing his power by knocking out Sanchez for the first time in his career. Besputin has defended the belt twice since that victory, beating Juan Carlos Abreu and Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco by unanimous decision in the last year to earn the title shot.

Radhzab Butaev is three years younger than Besputin, and his victories have not been as impressive, but he is still undefeated. Butaev had no problem with his first three opponents, and then he was thrown into the fire with a bout against 22-3 Gabor Gorbics for the vacant NABF Super Welterweight Title. He won that fight by unanimous decision to fast track his career and earn a title shot less than four years after his pro debut.

Butaev continued to beat decent opponents, and his two best victories came against Sherzodbek Alimjanov and Janer Gonzalez. Alimjanov was 23-3 at the time of their fight, while Gonzalez was 19-0-1, and both wins impressed boxing fans. However, his last two victories were against opponents with a combined 38 career losses, so there are a few questions about his potential.
