There have been no boxing betting odds released for this bout just yet, but Usyk is expected to be a sizable favorite per the boxing betting odds in his first bout as a heavyweight. Usyk has yet to lose in 16 fights, and he was declared the consensus fighter of the year in 2018.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, if Usyk is a -1000 favorite according to the boxing betting line, that means you would have to bet $1000 on Usyk to make a $100 profit. Conversely, if Spong is +600, a $100 bet on the former kickboxer would return $600.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyrone Spong Preview

Usyk has yet to lose a fight as a professional with a 16-0 record and 12 knockouts. Although this is Usyk’s first fight in the heavyweight division as a professional, he made a name for himself as a heavyweight in the amateur ranks. While he was still an amateur, Usyk won gold in the heavyweight division in the 2011 Boxing World Championships, and he won the gold medal in the same weight class at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

After his win at the Summer Olympics, Osyk decided to turn professional, but he dropped down to cruiserweight to begin his career. He won his first nine fights by knockout to earn a title shot, and he beat Krzysztof Glowacki for the WBO cruiserweight title in September 2016 by unanimous decision to grab his first belt.

Osyk wasn’t content to stop there though. He defended his title against four fighters before earning the chance to unify the cruiserweight division with a fight against Murat Gassiev in Moscow last July. The winner would become the first boxer to unify the division in the four-belt era, and Usyk established his dominance with a convincing win over Gassiev. He won nearly every round on all three cards, and Gassiev graciously accepted that Usyk had beat him handily in the ring.

Before moving up to heavyweight, Osyk defended his undisputed title once. He took on Tony Bellew with all four belts on the line in Bellew’s home country in November 2018, and he again proved he was the best cruiserweight fighter in the world. Usyk knocked out Bellew in the eighth round.

Following the victory, Usyk began looking for a new challenge. He announced his intention to move up to the heavyweight division earlier this year, and he was supposed to take on Carlos Takam on Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, Usyk suffered an injury and had to withdraw from the fight, and this is his first bout in almost a year.

Spong has registered just 14 bouts as a boxer, but he is an incredibly experienced fighter. He is 14-0 as a boxer with 13 knockouts. Before turning to boxing, Spong was an accomplished kickboxer, and he took on 100 opponents in the ring. He won 91 of those fights (60 by knockout), and he packs a punch with his blows.

When Spong made the decision to become a boxer, some dismissed him. However, he has continually proven himself and risen to the task on every occasion. He won his first 12 fights by knockout before facing Ytalo Perea in Suriname last December. Spong won that fight by split decision, and he followed that up with a quick TKO of Jeyson Minda to get a fight with Usyk.
