Two of the top young boxers in the junior welterweight division will meet on Friday night off the Boulder Strip in Las Vegas when Malik Hawkins and Keith Hunter enter the ring. Meanwhile, Hunter (11-0 with seven knockouts) is still somewhat raw, and he is taking a big step up in competition by taking on Hawkins. This bout will be broadcast on Showtime.

Where: Sam’s Town Live, Las Vegas, Nevada

Why: Junior welterweight bout

Malik Hawkins vs. Keith Hunter Betting Odds

There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this bout, but Hawkins is likely to be the favorite since he is the more experienced boxer.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, if Hawkins opens as a -300 favorite in this bout, you have to bet $300 on him to win $100 in profit. Those odds would probably lead to Hunter being a +240 underdog, so a $100 bet on the more inexperienced fighter would return $240 if he were to earn the win.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Malik Hawkins vs. Keith Hunter Preview

Hawkins made his debut a little over five years ago after posting an impressive 93-8 record as an amateur. He had no trouble with any of his first four opponents, defeating them all by knockout, and he won his first decision in his fifth fight. Hawkins continued to beat up on unheralded fighters for his first two years, but his first real challenge came at the behest of Carlos Soto in April 2017.

Soto was 13-0-2 coming into the fight, but he was no match for Hawkins. Hawkins dropped Soto in the second round to score his first impressive win, and he followed that up by defeating the experienced Juan Jesus Rivera Garces. That earned him a shot at a minor title, and he won a unanimous decision over 24-4 Raymond Serrano to earn the NABA-USA welterweight belt.

It took Hawkins nearly a year to return to the ring after that win, so he had to prove himself once again versus three untested fighters. He answered the challenge, winning all three bouts by unanimous decision, and then he knocked out All Rivera last September in Sin City. In his last bout, Hawkins made short work of Darwin Price, beating the previously unbeaten Price by TKO in the fifth round.

Keith Hunter is still very raw. He didn’t turn pro until he was 22 years old, and six of his first seven bouts were against tomato cans south of the border. Hunter’s opponents in his first eight bouts won just six fights between them at the time he faced them, but he proved himself somewhat with a victory over Sanjarbek Rakhmanov.

Rakhmanov was 11-1-1 entering their bout, and he fought hard after Hunter jumped on him early to earn the victory on one of the judges’ scorecards. However, the other two judges gave the fight to Hunter, earning him a split decision win. In his last fight back in June, he won a unanimous decision over Cameron Krael.
