Leo Santa Cruz vs. Rafael Rivera Betting News

Leo Santa Cruz will have an unexpected new opponent in defense of his featherweight championship bout on February 16. Miguel Flores was scheduled to take on Santa Cruz for the featherweight championship but had to withdraw due to an ankle injury suffered during training camp. As a result, Rafael “Big Bang” Rivera got the call to replace him. Santa Cruz was already a prohibitive favorite in the original matchup against Flores. That price will only go up even higher against the substitute Rivera that has lost two of his last three fights and is ranked far lower than was Flores. More

World Boxing Association Super World Featherweight Title

Few boxers enjoy the same respect and esteem of gamblers than does current World Boxing Association super world featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz has more than earned such fame by winning three different world championships in three different weight classes. He has held his current championship since 2017 after holding the International Boxing Federation bantamweight title from 2012 to 2013 and the World Boxing Council super-bantamweight title from 2013 to 2015. He also had a previous reign as World Boxing Association super world featherweight champion from 2015 to 2016.

Santa Cruz is currently ranked as the world’s eighth best active boxer pound for pound by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board. As recently as one year ago he was ranked sixth in that category. Also known as “The Earthquake” Santa Cruz has an impeccable record of championship fighting.

Leo Santa Cruz is ranked number one in the world for his weight class and is 30 years of age. He is a native of Mexico that now resides in Rosemead, California. “The Earthquake” now stands at five feet, seven and a half inches tall with a reach of 69 inches. Santa Cruz fights from an orthodox stance.

In this last fight Santa Cruz met Abner Mares for the World Boxing Association super world featherweight title and the World Boxing Council diamond featherweight title. Santa Cruz scored a hard fought 12 round unanimous decision win on June 9, 2018 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Santa Cruz overcame being cut in his left eye by a legal punch in the eighth round.

Rafael Rivera is 24 years old and is a native of Mexico where he still resides in Tijuana. He stands at five feet, seven inches tall with a reach of 66 inches and fights from an orthodox stance. Rivera is ranked 75th in the world.

Rivera last stepped into the ring on October 19, 2018 when he faced Jose Ramos at the Double Tree Hotel in Orlando and scored a knockout win in the first round of a scheduled six round bout. With the win Rivera snapped a two-bout losing streak.

Leo Santa Cruz vs. Rafael Rivera

Rafael Rivera is completely outclassed in this one as Leo Santa Cruz has a body of work that is light years beyond his own. The price will be big but making a case for Rivera is not possible.
