The Pac Man is still going strong at age 40 but faces a daunting task in this one. Indeed, it is rare to get such a powerful, dangerous, and quality underdog such as Thurman in a fight of this magnitude.
World Boxing Association World Welterweight Title
Keith “One Time” Thurman has never lost a fight in his professional career and yet finds himself as a slight underdog against Manny Pacquiao for Thurman’s World Boxing Association World Welterweight title. Thurman is a former unified welterweight champion and has held the WBA title since 2015. Many see Thurman as a dangerous and live dog with the punching power that few can match in any division.
Thurman stands at five feet, seven and a half inches tall with a reach of 69 inches and fights from an orthodox stance. He is a native of Clearwater, Florida where he still resides. Thurman last stepped into the ring on January 26, 2019 when he faced Josesito Lopez at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Thurman scored a 12 round MD win as Lopez went down in the second round. It was the eighth consecutive title defense bout that Thurman had won since capturing the then interim WBA welterweight title in a knockout win over Diego Chaves on July 27, 2013.
Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao is 40 years old and a native of the Philippines where he still resides. Pacquiao holds the distinction of being the only eight division world champion in the history of boxing and for winning a total of 12 major world championships. Additionally, he has won world championships in four of the original weight divisions of boxing (flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight). Pacquiao was named fighter of the decade for the 2000s by Boxing Writers Association of America. For many years he was rated the best pound for pound boxer in the world.
