Why: WBC and WBO Light Welterweight Titles

Jose Ramirez vs. Viktor Postol Betting Odds

There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this bout, but Ramirez will be a considerable favorite. Ramirez has spent the last two years taking on and winning against all comers in this weight class, while Postol has lost two of his last five bouts.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, if Ramirez opens as a -1000 favorite in this bout, you have to bet $1000 on Ramirez to win $100 in profit. Those odds would probably lead to Postol being a +600 underdog, so a $100 bet on the challenger would return $600 if Postol were to claim the belts once more.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Jose Ramirez vs. Viktor Postol Preview

Ramirez was made to be a boxer. He won everything you can win domestically as a lightweight when he was an amateur, but he was shocked in the 2012 Summer Olympics by Fazliddin Gaibnazarov. That loss doesn’t look bad now since Gaibnazarov won the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and he is one of the top up and comers in the lightweight division as a professional.

As we usually see with boxers, Ramirez turned pro shortly after the Summer Olympics. He had no problem winning his first 15 bouts to earn a shot at a minor title, and he beat Johnny Garcia in December 2015 to win the WBC Continental Americas light welterweight strap. Ramirez defended that title successfully four times before taking on Amir Imam for the WBC light welterweight title in November 2017, and he defeated Imam by unanimous decision for his first major belt.

Since that victory, he has successfully defended the title three times. Ramirez defeated Antonio Orozco and Jose Zepeda to set up a unification battle with Maurice Hooker in July, and he stopped Hooker in the sixth round to claim both belts.

It took some time for Postol to earn his first major title shot. He ran his record to 27-0 by primarily boxing in and around the Ukraine, but his 10th round knockout victory Lucas Matthysse proved that he was one of the best light welterweights in the world. Postol claimed the WBC light welterweight title with that victory, setting up a big fight with Terence Crawford.

Crawford bested Postol by unanimous decision, and he lost his second title fight to Josh Taylor in June 2018. Since that defeat, he has won over Siar Ozgul on points and secured a unanimous decision win over Mohamed Mimoune.
