A native of Ukraine, Derevyanchenko now resides in Brooklyn, New York.

Last time out for Derevyanchenko was on October 5, 2019 when he faced Gennady Golovkin at Madison Square Garden in New York. At stake was the International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization world middleweight titles. Derevyanchenko went down twice in the first round which set the tone for the fight. Derevyanchenko ended up losing to Golovkin in a 12 round unanimous decision. It was the second time in two tries that Derevyanchenko lost a championship fight. On October 27, 2018 he was defeated by Daniel Jacobs for the International Boxing Federation world middleweight title.

Jermall Charlo last stepped into the ring on December 7, 2019 when he faced Dennis Hogan for the World Boxing Council world middleweight title. It was the third successful title defense for Charlo. He originally won the title belt against Hugo Centeno Jr. on April 21, 2018.
