James Kirkland vs. Marcos Hernandez BetNting Odds

There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this bout, but Kirkland is likely to be favored since he is the bigger name.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, if Kirkland opens as a -400 favorite in this bout, you have to bet $400 on him to win $100 in profit. Those odds would probably lead to Hernandez being a +300 underdog, so a $100 bet on him would return $300 in profit if he were to pick up the win.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

James Kirkland vs. Marcos Hernandez Preview

Kirkland became a professional boxer at the age of 17 after a decorated amateur career. His immense power was on display quickly, as 14 of his first 16 bouts ended in knockout victories inside of three rounds. It took some time for him to earn a title shot though, running his record to 21-0 before he took on Eromosele Albert for the WBO-NABO light middleweight title.

That fight was over in a little over a minute as Kirkland’s power was simply too much for Albert. He continued to knock out foes with his overpowering, brawling style and moved to 27-0 before being knocked out in the first round by Nobuhiro Ishida in April 2011.

The loss wasn’t much of a setback as after two quick knockouts over the summer, he earned another title shot. Kirkland beat Alfredo Angulo by sixth round TKO, and then he won a somewhat wild DQ victory over Carlos Molina. That eventually led to a bout with Canelo Alvarez in May 2015, and Kirkland was no match for the unified middleweight champion. He was knocked out in the third round, and it took him four years to re-enter the ring.

His last two fights haven’t been impressive. He beat 13-14 Colby Courter by first round TKO in August, and he followed that up with an early KO of 10-7-2 Jas Phipps in November.

Hernandez doesn’t have the same power as Kirkland with just three knockouts in his professional career. He turned pro in August 2013 and beat up on tomato cans in his first seven bouts, but his victories over fellow upstarts Thomas Hill and Antonio Urista showed that he had potential. However, he lost his next bout to Kyrone Davis.

It’s been two steps forward and one step back for Hernandez since that point. He has yet to win more than two straight fights, and although he has some solid victories over boxers like Daniel Valdivia and Quatavious Cash, he has lost two of his last three bouts. His most impressive performance to date was earning a split decision draw off Jeison Rosario back in February 2018.
