Gamboa (30-2 with 18 knockouts) has not held a title since losing to Terence Crawford over five years ago, and he would love to claim a belt to ring in 2020.

There have yet to be boxing betting odds released for this bout, but Gervonta Davis is expected to be a sizable favorite in his first fight as a lightweight. He has yet to lose a bout, while Yuriorkis Gamboa is in the twilight of his career at the age of 37.

To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, assume that Davis is an -800 favorite. That means you would have to bet $800 on Davis to win $100 in profit. That would likely make Gamboa around a +600 underdog per the boxing betting odds, so a $100 bet on the underdog would return $600.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Gervonta Davis vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa Preview

Davis became a professional boxer in early 2013 after winning the 2012 Golden Gloves title. His decision to make the jump from the amateur ranks quickly paid off, and he showed his class from the outset. He knocked out his first eight opponents, and only one counterpart lasted longer than two rounds.

German Marez was his next foe, and he proved to be Davis’ toughest test to date. Marez is the only boxer that Davis couldn’t knock out, going the distance before losing by unanimous decision. Davis responded by pummeling his subsequent opponents though, earning a title shot against Jose Pedraza in January 2017.

Davis knocked out Pedraza in the seventh round in January 2017 to claim the IBF Super Featherweight belt, and he sent Jesus Cuellar to the canvas in the third round in April 2018 to win the WBA Super Featherweight title. After dominating those two title fights, Davis thought his best challenge was to try a new weight class, and this will be his first bout as a lightweight.

Gamboa was one of the last great amateur Cuban boxers. He won gold at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and he sold his medal to support his family while he defected. It didn’t take long before he was boxing as a professional fighter in Europe, and he showed he had what it took to succeed early on.

After six bouts across the pond, Gamboa came back to North America and saw his star rise. He won multiple minor belts and took his record to 14-0 before facing Jose Rojas in Primm for the WBA Featherweight title. He won that fight, and he added the IBF belt in September 2010 with a victory by unanimous decision over Orlando Salido.

Gamboa defended his belt successfully eight times, but Crawford proved to be too much. Crawford beat him for the belt in June 2014, knocking him out in nine rounds. The Cuban wasn’t the same after that loss, losing to Robinson Castellanos a few years later, and he has won less than convincingly in two of his last four bouts.
