The oddsmakers have made Wilder a sizable favorite to win his rematch with Ortiz. He is -600 per the boxing betting odds, but Ortiz did give him trouble the last time they met in the ring.
To those unfamiliar with betting on boxing, this boxing betting line means that you would have to bet $600 on Wilder to win $100. However, if you think that Ortiz will best Wilder this time around, a $100 bet on the underdog will return $445.
As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.
WBC Heavyweight Championship
A win for Wilder here would likely set up a lucrative rematch with Tyson Fury in 2020. Wilder has yet to lose in more than 11 years as a professional boxer, and he is one of the most fearsome fighters in the sport. He has made a reputation for himself as a knockout artist, dispatching of his first 32 foes by KO.
Wilder was 32-0 with 32 knockouts before he received his first major title shot. The Bronze Bomber squared off with WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne in this same arena in January 2015, besting the Canadian by unanimous decision in 12 rounds. He has defended his title in Alabama four times since claiming the strap, with his other fights taking place in New York and Los Angeles. This is the first time he has returned to Vegas since claiming the title over Stiverne though.
Over the past five years, Wilder has successfully defended his title nine times. Eight of those defenses came by way of knockout wins, but Fury was able to take a split decision out of their bout in Los Angeles last year. His toughest test other than that was Ortiz, who posed some problems before Wilder before he was sent to the canvas.
Ortiz’s lone loss in his career was at the hands of Wilder, and he would love to avenge his defeat. The Cuban heavyweight has impressed with his power over his long career, and he was the WBA interim heavyweight champion in late 2015.
He has won his last three fights since his defeat to earn one more title shot, defeating Razvan Cojanu and Travis Kauffman by TKO before a unanimous decision victory over Christian Hammer earlier this year. Ortiz is 40 years old, so this is his last chance to be in the limelight, and he wants to make the most of it.
