World Boxing Association Junior Lightweight Title

On February 9, 2019 Albert Machado met Andrew Cancio met at the Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California for the World Boxing Association world super featherweight title. Cancio recovered after going down in the first round to send Machado down three times in the fourth round for a knockout win and championship. Little time was wasted in scheduling a rematch. Although it was an early knockout win for Cancio the fact remains that promoters have a lot of belief in Machado. Especially in regards to his punching power.

Alberto Machado is 28 years old and a native of Puerto Rico where he still resides. Machado is ranked ninth in the world. He stands at five feet, 10 inches tall with a reach of 72 inches and fights from a southpaw stance.

In his bout before meeting Cancio, Machado faced Yuandale Evans on October 27, 2018 at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. At stake was the World Boxing Association world super featherweight title. Machado scored a first-round knockout in a bout that was scheduled for 12 rounds.

Before that Machado took on Rafael Mensah at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas on July 21, 2018 for the WBA world super featherweight title. Machado scored a 12 round unanimous decision win.

Before his stunning win over Machado, Cancio faced Dardan Zenunaj on August 17, 2018 at the Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California. Cancio scored a 10-round unanimous decision win.

Prior to that on April 12, 2018 Cancio faced Aidar Sharibayev at the Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, Caliofornia. Cancio scored a technical knockout win in the 10th round of a scheduled 10 round bout.

Cascio’s win over Sharibayev was an important rebound because if followed a defeat to Joseph Diaz on September 17, 2016 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. On the line was the NABF featherweight title. Cancio was cut on the bridge of his nose by a punch in the third round. Cancio stopped standing in the ninth round and the fight ended.
