Also known as the White Lion, Povetkin was born in Kursk, Russia and now resides in Chekhov, Russia. Povetkin and Whyte met at the Matchroom Fight Camp in Brentwood on August 22, 2020, for the World Boxing Council interim heavyweight title. Povetkin scored a fifth-round knockout in an upset. Povetkin was the survivor of two knockdowns in the fourth round before he rallied with a stunning left uppercut that sent Whyte to the canvass, not to get up to fight anymore in that matchup.

Before his win over Whyte, Povetkin met Michael Hunter at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah on December 7, 2019. The fight went the full 12 rounds and was scored a split decision.

Dillian Whyte, age 32, is ranked eighth in the world. Whyte has a career record of 27 wins and two losses. Whyte has 18 knockout wins and two knockout losses for his career. Also known as the Body Snatcher, Whyte stands at six feet, four inches tall with a reach of 78 inches, and fights from an orthodox stance. Whyte was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica and now resides in Brixton, London, United Kingdom.

Before his loss to Povetkin, Whyte faced Mariusz Wach at the Diriyah Arena in Diriyah on December 7, 2019. Whyte was the winner in a unanimous decision.

This fight was initially scheduled for March 6 but had to be pushed back due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in the United Kingdom. The winner of this fight will have the inside track to face World Boxing Council full heavyweight champion Tyson Fury later in 2021.
