Bravazo Preakness Stakes BettingTriple Crown Betting Online: Trained by legendary D. Wayne Lukas, Bravazo is one colt that will race in the Preakness Stakes after competing in the Kentucky Derby. Bravazo finished sixth in the Run for the Roses, but should have a better showing on a dry track and the shorter distance at Pimlico. And he’s certainly no stranger to the track. Bravazo has nine career races under his belt and has placed in five. He won the Risen Star Stakes earlier this year before finishing eighth at the Louisiana Derby prior to the Kentucky Derby.

The Preakness Stakes will be run on Saturday, May 19, 2018 with post time set for 6:20 p.m. ET at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Catch the Preakness Stakes live on NBC.

Lukas has won the Preakness Stakes six times in his career, so he knows what it takes. And he feels Bravazo has a good chance of competing on a dry track and shorter distance. Bravazo opened in the middle of the pack on the odds board at +2500 and doesn’t possess the pedigree of Justify or Good Magic, but the races aren’t won on paper or in the stables. Jockey Luis Contreras took the mount for the Derby and Lukas said afterwards that Bravazo ran “beyond our expectations.”

Why Bravazo Will Win the Preakness Stakes

At least Bravazo is stretched out after running the 1 1/4 mile Kentucky Derby. Lukas likes his chances on the shorter track and with better conditions, the colt could surprise. Bravazo had a rough outing at the Louisiana Derby in March finishing eighth, but he had a bad trip in that run. Before that he opened the year with wins at the Risen Star Stakes and an optional/allowance win at Oaklawn.

He won the risen star going off at 21-1 and Lukas felt his horse turned a corner at Oaklawn. On a slow track, Bravazo cleared a mile at a little over 1:37. “We felt he was headed in the right direction,” Lukas said after the narrow victory.

Why Bravazo Won't Win the Preakness Stakes

It’s Justify’s race to lose and the rest of the field is neck-and-neck in terms of ability and odds. But like we’ve seen so many times on the track and in the world of sports in general, things don’t always go according to plan. With many of the Derby participants out of the running, the field isn’t nearly as strong as it could be. Bravazo was sixth at the Derby, running beyond the expectations of trainer Lukas. If that’s all he can do running one of his better races, winning the Preakness is out of the question.

The Final Verdict

Like we said, you never what can happen on the track. Justify could get pinched on a turn, Good Magic could have a slow start out of the gate and all of a sudden the race is up for grabs. But that’s unlikely to happen and Bravazo will be left behind. Also, this will be the colt’s fifth race this year, which is a lot. And that will hurt him down the stretch as he falls off the pace.
