Conquest Mo Money Preakness Stakes BettingTriple Crown Betting Online: Much like Justify, Tenfold got a late start on the track not running as a 2-year-old. He won his maiden race streaking to a six-length victory at Oaklawn in February and followed that up with another victory five weeks later in an allowance optional race also at Oaklawn. Going 2 for 2, trainer Steve Asmussen was confident Tenfold was ready for a bigger stage and entered him in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby. After a strong start, Tenfold faded down the stretch to finish fifth in a field of nine.

The Preakness Stakes will be run on Saturday, May 19, 2018 with post time set for 6:20 p.m. ET at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Catch the Preakness Stakes live on NBC.

Tenfold has only three races on his card so it’s hard to gauge his ability. However, he has strong blood lines being sired by 2007 Preakness Stakes winner Curlin, who was also trained by Asmussen. His only graded race resulted in a disappointing fifth-place finish, which is why Tenfold comes off at a 30-1 longshot. Asmussen also won the Preakness in 2009 with Rachel Alexandra and believes his colt could be special. “He’s a very nice horse that is getting better,” the trainer said.

Why Tenfold Will Win the Preakness Stakes

We just don’t know what the brown colt is capable of after running only three times. He did win his first two events but came in a disappointing fifth at the Arkansas Derby. And of course his father is legendary Curlin, who won the Preakness in 2007 and was the highest money winner in North America from 2008 to 2016.

The distance shouldn’t be a factor with all three of Tenfold’s races going a mile and 1/16th or longer. He has worked at the distance in preparation for the Preakness after faltering down the stretch at the Arkansas Derby. “I was a touch disappointed. He’s better than that,” Asmussen said following Tenfold’s fifth-place finish.

Why Tenfold Won't Win the Preakness Stakes

He should be in good shape for the Preakness with only three races on his card, and he’s had five weeks since running the Arkansas Derby. But in his only graded race, Tenfold faded down the stretch and took fifth in the nine-team Arkansas Derby. That doesn’t instill a lot of confidence in him to compete against what will be a stronger field at Pimlico.

The Final Verdict

While Asmussen and jockey Victor Espinoza think highly of their horse, the oddsmakers don’t. In a stronger field at Arkansas, Tenfold held his own through the last turn but couldn’t keep up. It wasn’t the best showing heading into the Preakness and with only three career races it’s hard to imagine Tenfold giving competitors Justify, Good Magic and Quip a run for their money.
