2017-Horses-Epicharis-Betting-OddsKentucky Derby Betting: After a lackluster start to his career, Audible has emerged as one of the favorites to win the Kentucky Derby. He came in third place in his first attempt to win a maiden, but changing tracks seemed to provide him with the spark that he needed.

He won his next attempt at Aqueduct Racetrack and then blasted the competition in his third race at the end of 2017, winning by 9 ¾ lengths. His owners moved him down to Florida to run at Gulfstream Park, and he rewarded them with a 5 ½ length win over Enticed and Free Drop Billy at the Holy Bull Stakes.

That performance made him the favorite heading into the Florida Derby and he delivered at 3/5 odds. He knocked off Hofburg by three lengths in late March to be one of the first horses to lock up a spot at the Kentucky Derby.

The Kentucky Derby will go to post on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 6:34 p.m. ET at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Catch the Kentucky Derby live on NBC.

Audible was sired by Into Mischief and his dam was Blue Devil Bel. Into Mischief only ran in three races, but he has been one of the most prodigious sires over the last couple years. He has sired 35 stakes winners and his progeny have earned more than $33 million.

Todd Pletcher is Audible’s trainer. Pletcher is bringing four horses to the Kentucky Derby, as he is a hot commodity after he trained last year’s winner Always Dreaming. However, that was only Pletcher’s second horse to win the Kentucky Derby.

His jockey for the Kentucky Derby will be Javier Castellano. Castellano is one of the most well-respected jockeys around, but he has not had a lot of success in this race. This will be his 12th time at the Kentucky Derby, and he has yet to have a horse finish in the top three.

Why Audible Will Win the Kentucky Derby

Although Audible has tasted defeat, his two last performances give me a lot of confidence in him. He was able to beat good fields at both races, and he has been able to win in different fashions. At the Holy Bull Stakes, he hung with the lead pack and then pulled ahead to win big at the end. More impressively, he roared back after behind being three lengths at the ½ mile mark at the Florida Derby to win.

Additionally, his Beyer Speed Rating numbers have looked very good. He checked in at 105 in the Holy Bull Stakes and at 107 at the Florida Derby. That improvement is what you want to see heading into the Kentucky Derby.

Why Audible Won't Win the Kentucky Derby

There are concerns about whether or not Audible can make it the extra 1/8 of a mile. His pedigree suggests he is best in one mile races, but he did win the Florida Derby at 1 1/8 of a mile.

The Final Verdict

Audible is worth a play as a second-tier favorite. His performances over the last two races suggest he is still improving, and I like his upward trajectory.
