The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint is one of the newer races in the Breeders’ Cup, as it was held first in 2018, as it had previously been one of the undercard races. The race is for two-year-old horses and is run on grass at a distance of 5.5 furlongs. The race was run for the first time as part of the Breeders’ Cup in 2018 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The 2019 race will be run at Santa Anita Park on Friday, November 1 and it is the first race of the Breeders Cup, with a post time of 4:12 p.m. Eastern Time.

Trainer Todd Pletcher won this race last year with Bulletin and he should have two horses that run in this year’s race and trainer Peter Miller should have two horses as well and Miller has become known for his success in sprint races. Trainer Wesley Ward may have three horses in the race and he has had previous turf success.
Two of Ward’s horses, Kimari and Four Wheel Drive should be the top two horses in terms of the betting odds. Kimari was very impressive in the Queen Mary Stakes finishing second. She got her spot in this race by winning the Indian Summer Stakes at Keeneland. Four Wheel Drive is by American Pharoah and won the Futurity at Belmont to get a spot in this race.
One of the shippers in the race will be Society Rock for Simon Crisford and he could go off at single-digit odds. He won the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot in June to get his spot in this race.
Darkhorse contenders could be Cambria, Chimney Rock and El Tigre Terrible.
Longshots in the race include Another Miracle, Bulletproof One, Freewheeler, Miss J McKay and Mystic Lancelot.

The Breeders’ Cup has a qualification system with the “Win and You’re In” races and that applies to the Juvenile Turf Sprint with five automatic berths being awarded.
