NFL ATS Picks - Miami Dolphins at New York Jets Game Preview

Dolphins-at-Jets-(CBS)

Miami has more talent and will be favored in this matchup, but the Jets do get the comfort of the home venue. New York has major questions on offense and the defense will likely need to force multiple turnovers for the team to win. The Dolphins squeaked out a win in their opener against the Los Angeles Chargers but the jury is still out on them, especially with quarterback Jay Cutler leading the way.

This matchup in Week 3 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at 1 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium.

Odds Analysis

The Jets are going to be the underdogs in the vast majority of their games this season. They are getting quite a few points, but the bettors clearly don’t think it is enough. More than 88 percent of the action is on the Dolphins to cover this spread, despite the fact that are an average club playing on the road. That’s a dangerous combination, but the Jets have been so bad that most expect the blowouts to continue.

The scoring total is pretty low, and the betting public thinks the “over” is the more likely scenario, with 71 percent of the action banking on that choice instead of the “under.”

Injury Report

Lawrence Timmons - The Dolphins linebacker isn’t injured, but he didn’t play on Sunday while dealing with a personal matter. It’s too soon to know if he will play in this game, but it’s possible Timmons doesn’t participate. He is the team’s top outside linebacker and has been a starter throughout his career.

Jarvis Landry - The Dolphins’ electric wide receiver was questionable for last week’s game against the Chargers but did end up playing. The knee injury didn’t seem to bother him as Landry had a whopping 13 catches for 78 yards. He should be ready to go for this one.

Brian Winters - The Jets guard suffered a groin injury in Week 2 and had to leave the game. While there is no official update to his status, he said after the game it wasn’t a big deal. He seems likely to be available, but check back throughout the week.

Key Stat

34. That’s the Jets’ negative point-differential this season, which is the second-worst in the NFL this season behind only the Colts. They were reasonably competitive in the opener, losing to the Bills by a score of 21-12.

However, the wheels came off last time out as the Jets were embarrassed by the Raiders to the tune of 45-20. The defense is supposed to be the strong point of the team but it allowed 420 total yards to Oakland in the blowout loss. There is not much to be hopeful about for the Jets this season, as they simply don’t have the talent to compete on a regular basis. The question this week, though, is if they can put it together enough to pull out one victory.

Free ATS Pick

If the Jets don’t get off to a good start in this game, they could be sunk. The Dolphins don’t have a dominant team but they have enough solid pieces to jump on New York and never look back. However, the feeling is that it won’t happen.

Jay Cutler is still getting comfortable in the offense, and if the Jets defensive front can pressure him, it could lead to an interception or two. The Jets are going to finish with one of the worst records in the NFL this year, but an upset could be brewing in this one. Take New York to stun Miami.

NFL Odds: Jets 23 , Dolphins 21
