NFL ATS Picks - Miami Dolphins at Los Angeles Chargers Game Preview

Dolphins-at-Chargers-(CBS)-bm

After spending so many years in San Diego, it will be the Chargers’ regular season debut in Los Angeles and they will aim to put on a show for their new fans. Los Angeles made a valiant comeback attempt against the Broncos in their opener but lost by a field goal when their game-tying kick attempt as time ran out was deflected.

Kickoff for this regular season Week 2 game is set for Sunday, September 17, 2017, at 4:05 p.m. ET at StubHub Stadium.

Odds Analysis

There is no spread quite yet as the Chargers played on Monday night, but the Chargers figure to be slight home favorites. Miami is a bit of a wild card with a new quarterback and if it can pull off the upset that would be a great sign.

The scoring total shouldn’t be anything too out of the ordinary.

Player To Watch

Jay Cutler -- The Dolphins coaxed the strong-armed quarterback out of retirement after Ryan Tannehill was lost for the season. Cutler will have the benefit of a strong running game that is led by Jay Ajayi. However, the team’s fortunes in this game and the season could depend on how well he performs.

The Dolphins have a star wideout in Jarvis Landry. Cutler’s arm talent has always impressed but he too often uses it as a crutch and forces throws into tight windows. That has led to his fair share of interceptions, and the Chargers have some defensive backs that will aim to take advantage.

Matchup To Watch

Joey Bosa vs. Laremy Tunsil -- The Chargers have one of the best young pass-rushers in the NFL in Bosa, who had two sacks in the opener and should hit double digits this season as long as he stays healthy. Tunsil is a fellow first-round pick with plenty of talent at left tackle for the Dolphins.

This is a prime matchup. If Tunsil can hold his own, it will be a huge development for the Miami passing game. If not, Cutler could be in trouble as Bosa will be harassing him regularly. In a game that could be close, one or two big moments can swing the outcome.

Bosa would love to be the reason for a Chargers win, and Tunsil will do everything he can to keep Cutler clean and comfortable.

Free ATS Pick

The Chargers’ record has been poor the past few seasons but they have been hit hard by injuries regularly. They are mostly healthy for now, and the offense found a groove late against the Broncos. It wasn’t the result they wanted by losing in Denver, but it was nonetheless a good effort against an elite defense.

Los Angeles should be able to put up some points in this one, and the Dolphins will need to answer. Miami is confident Cutler can step in and play well, but that is easier said than done. Expect some issues early in this one, which should allow the Chargers to jump out to a lead.

Miami has enough playmakers to find the end zone a couple times, but the Chargers should be able to take care of business at home. The debut in Los Angeles will be a fruitful one for the Chargers and the Dolphins will head home shaking their heads after losing this one.

NFL Odds: Chargers 28, Dolphins 20
