Who will win the 2020 EU Masters

The LEC has crowned its champion of the 2020 Spring Split after G2 Esports crushed Fnatic 3-0 on Sunday. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t League of Legends going on in Europe this week, as the stage has been set for the EU Masters. The lower tier national leagues on the continent will have their best teams compete against each other for pride and a significant prize pool, and this is the tournament to watch if you are interested in the next crop of future European standouts. German teams Schalke 04.EVO and Mousesports are the favorites to win this competition per the League of Legends betting odds, but squads from other countries are out to upend these two heavyweights.

Despite seeing jungler Lurox and AD Carry Innaxe promoted to the main team in the middle of the season, Schalke still managed to hold off all comers to take down the Prime League Spring Split title. They found a strong mid laner in Sertuss to hard carry on assassin champions like Akali and Zoe, but the real difference was replacing Innaxe with Neon. Neon was part of the Misfits’ team that won the 2019 EU Masters Spring Split title, and he spent last summer learning under Hans Sama. He was poised to make a move to another team prior to his suspension for toxic behavior, but that transgression led to teams avoiding him. That was a huge benefit to Schalke though, as the organization was able to pick him up right after Innaxe made the leap to the LEC, and he responded with a dazzling 7.8 KDA per Games of Legends. Neon and Sertuss make Schalke the team to beat.

Mousesports will lean heavily on their experienced bottom lane in this tournament. Jeskla and Promisq have both spent time in the LEC, so they won’t wilt under the pressure of playing in the EU Masters like younger players will over the course of this event. However, it’s not wise to bet on this team to claim the title due to their inability to beat Schalke and their reliance on certain picks. Jeskla has done most of his damage on Aphelios, and he hasn’t been as impressive on other champions. Meanwhile, top laner Tolkin played either Gangplank or Aatrox in over half his games, so opponents will have counters ready.

It’s a bit surprising to see Fnatic as the third favorite entering this competition. They have the backing of the most prestigious League of Legends team in Europe, but they shouldn’t have defeated BT Excel in the UKLC Grand Finals. BT Excel were unbeaten in the regular season and went up 2-0 on Fnatic Rising before collapsing in the final three games of the series. That makes BT Excel easily the best bet on the board at this price, and Fnatic Rising as the team to avoid at 6-1.

The other two teams to watch out for in this competition are Spain’s Vodafone Giants and Movistar Riders. They were the two best teams in Spain throughout the season, and they played an epic five-game series in the finals. Vodafone Giants’ AD Carry Attila is on a mission to prove he belongs in the LEC after being released by Team Vitality in the offseason, and he has a superb 11.8 KDA per Games of Legends. Meanwhile, the Movistar Riders have an excellent jungler in Elyoya, and he sets the pace for his squad.
