NA LCS Spring Split 2019 Semifinals Preview

The chalk held up in the first round of the NA LCS Spring Split Playoffs, but it was close. Team SoloMid weren’t expected to drop a game against Echo Fox, but they lost the first game and were taken to 41 minutes in the decisive fourth game before advancing. The other series between FlyQuest and Golden Guardians was remarkably close. FlyQuest managed to knock off Golden Guardians in five games, but it was a coinflip series and Golden Guardians could have easily won instead.

Oddsmakers are expecting two very different series in the semifinals. Team Liquid are a massive favorite over FlyQuest, and they are odds-on to sweep the series after dominating the regular season. The match-up between TSM and Cloud9 is expected to be a doozy though. This series is essentially a coin flip.

Team SoloMid -115

Cloud9 -105

TSM and C9 are the bluest of the blue bloods, and we will see another chapter in their epic rivalry this weekend. TSM have largely had the better of things against C9, but C9 beat TSM in both of their meetings this season.

The first meeting between these teams was pretty even until the 30-minute mark, but C9 pulled away after that with TSM’s Zven failing to get a single kill in the bottom lane. The second meeting was just an epic throw. C9 beat TSM in a game they had no business winning, with TSM blowing a 7200 gold lead per tracking website Games of Legends.

Bjergsen will be the key for TSM in this game. He has long been the leader of TSM, and he has been the best player on the team this season. Bjergsen has a 5.8 KDA on the year, and we have seen him put together some dominant games on Zoe, Zilean, and Sylas. He is a more skilled player than C9’s Nisqy, and he has been the player that TSM have played through all year.

The bottom lane isn’t as one-sided as some think. Sneaky is not the feared AD Carry he once was, but he is still capable of moments of brilliance, and he has had two good performances against TSM’s Zven. Additionally, I like Zeyzal more than Smoothie in support.

The jungle match-up is relatively even, but the top lane match-up could be explosive. Licorice is the best top laner in the region, but Broken Blade has looked very sharp in recent weeks. The latter’s Vladimir and Akali have been on point, and he has taken a myriad of champions into the top lane. We haven’t seen Licorice carry much this split, yet he will probably have to in this series.

TSM have looked strong and might have a talent edge, but I like C9’s chemistry and coaching more, so I’ll take them to win in five games.

Team Liquid -1010

FlyQuest +630

I’m with the oddsmakers on this one. I don’t see a way for this series to be close. It will be on a new patch (Patch 9.6), and FlyQuest have experience on that patch while Liquid doesn’t. However, it’s hard to find a single position where FlyQuest have an edge.

FlyQuest did beat Liquid a few weeks ago, but that game meant nothing to Liquid as they had already clinched the No. 1 seed, and they did not look as focused as we have seen in the past.

Pobelter can potentially get the upper hand on Jensen in the mid lane, but there is a major skill gap between Doublelift and WildTurtle in the bottom lane. I think Doublelift will smash WildTurtle and Liquid will sweep.
