League of Legends NA LCS 2019 Spring Split Finals

Team Liquid are out to win their third straight North American title. Liquid were the dominant domestic team in the region last season, and that has continued into this year with the squad finishing the regular season with the best record in the NA LCS. The last team to win three straight split titles was TSM, so it’s only natural that they would be the ones to have to stop Liquid from matching their mark. TSM are decent underdogs to do so, but they certainly have more than a fighting chance.

TSM were the first team to defeat Liquid this season, and they ended up beating them in both regular season meetings as Liquid had nothing to play for in the second match.

Liquid were only lightly tested in their first playoff series last week. They drafted a crazy lineup that included Sona and Taric in the bottom lane in Game 1, and that was the only game where they struggled.

Meanwhile, TSM needed to reverse sweep Cloud9 to get here. Cloud9 had no trouble beating TSM in the first two games of their series, but TSM were able to win the next three games to complete the reverse sweep and make it to the final.

One of the most interesting things to see is whether or not TSM will allow Sona and Taric to be picked. Liquid used that combination against Flyquest last week, and it was obviously something they had used in concert with Cloud9 because C9 used that duo in their first game against TSM last week too. The coaching staff has likely been hard at work with counters, but if they aren’t too confident in something they will have to ban one of the two champions away.

This top lane match-up will be a good one. Broken Blade has gotten better and better as he has become more comfortable in North America, and he could outduel Impact here. Impact is a consistent top laner, yet he has been outplayed in the top lane by aggressive top laners before.

The two best AD Carries in North America will square off as well. Doublelift has been the best AD Carry in the region for a while, but Zven came to NA to challenge him. Last season was a major disappointment for both Zven and TSM, but he has looked sharp this year. Zven has played a lot of Ezreal, jumping on the champion in 40 percent of TSM’s games, so look for Doublelift to have counters ready. Liquid have a massive edge in terms of support too as CoreJJ has instantly become the best support in the region.

One of the most iconic rivalries over the years has been that of Bjergsen and Jensen. These two have duked it out for regional supremacy for years, but now Jensen is on Liquid instead of C9. Jensen is the more aggressive of the two, and he has been more prone to try something risky in order to get ahead. His 11.2 KDA is the highest of any player in North America, and he will certainly take a power pick to try to outplay Bjergsen.

Most observers are calling for a close match, but I’m going against the grain. I think Liquid have the advantage at every position aside from possibly mid lane, and they have a considerable edge in the bottom lane. Don’t be surprised if Liquid wins this one in a sweep with Doublelift carrying them in the mid and late game.
