After going nearly a month without top tier League of Legends, fans of the most popular Esport are ready to see eight of the best teams in the world square off in the Mid-Season Cup. There is a lot of regional pride on the line between China and Korea, and what we have seen in Rift Rivals over the last few years has highlighted that this is the best regional rivalry in the world, sorry EU and NA. Unfortunately, there is no margin for error at this event since it will only last for four days, and only two of the four teams in each group will advance to the knockout rounds over the weekend.
JD Gaming -175
Gen.G +139
The best esports team in China during the LPL Spring Split is the favorite to win both Group B and the Mid-Season Cup per the League of Legends betting odds. JD Gaming has been nearly unbeatable when the Dumpling Brothers are in play in 2020. Top laner Zoom and mid laner Yagao have fantastic chemistry together in team fights, and jungler Kanavi was the best at his position in China this split. They have the advantage over Gen.G in all three of those positions, so this should be a victory for JDG.
Invictus Gaming -135
DragonX +105
Invictus Gaming is the most undervalued team coming into this competition. The 2018 World Champions were dismantled by both Top Esports and FunPlus Phoenix in the LPL Spring Playoffs, so many observers are dismissing this team. However, there’s no question that they are as talented as any team in this competition with TheShy and Rookie leading the way, and Puff is better than he’s given credit for in the bottom lane. DragonX has major top lane issues, and TheShy can exploit them.
Gen.G -140
DragonX +110
Although DragonX have problems in the top lane, they are a live underdog against their Korean counterparts here. Rascal is not a strong laner that can consistently punish Doran, and DragonX have the skill to beat them in other areas. Chovy is probably the second-best mid laner in the LCK next to Faker, and DragonX’s bottom lane of Deft and Keria can contend with Ruler and Life. This is nice value on the underdog.
JD Gaming -165
Invictus Gaming +131
I’m going to be rolling the dice with Invictus Gaming in every game because of the value in this team at these prices. Invictus did lose to JD Gaming 2-0 in their last meeting back in early April, but they have the skill to beat any team in a best of one. Don’t be surprised if TheShy takes something unusual into the top lane to try to catch JDG offguard.
Gen.G -125
Invictus Gaming -105
This is the best play in Group B. Gen.G are overvalued after finishing first in the LCK during the regular season. However, we’ve seen the LCK really struggle against the LPL over the last two years, and the region seems a step or two behind as a whole. If Gen.G gets the win it will likely be due to Ruler in the bottom lane, but Invictus has the edge in the other two lanes.
JD Gaming -175
DragonX +139
Zoom is licking his chops to square off against Doran in the top lane. This matchup might lead to DragonX moving Chovy into the top lane and bringing in Quad to the mid lane, but then Yagao would have an edge against the lightly tested Quad. That makes it difficult to imagine DragonX pulling off the upset although their bottom lane could outperform their counterparts.
