League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Week 1 Preview

League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Week 1 Preview

There’s no doubt that G2 Esports are the team to beat coming into the 2020 LEC Summer Split. G2 have won the last three European titles, and they are far and away more talented than any other team in the region.

They will kick off the Summer Split this Friday, June 12, when they face the team that gave them the most trouble in the spring, the MAD Lions.

LEC Summer Split Week 1 Betting Odds

G2 Esports -270

MAD Lions +207

The Lions were able to knock off G2 during the regular season this spring, and then they pulled off the biggest upset of the playoffs when they sent the defending champions to the losers’ bracket. They were subsequently smashed in their postseason rematch to determine who would meet Fnatic in the Spring Split Finals, but this team showed a lot of promise.

It might be tempting to bet the MAD Lions at this price given their recent success against G2, but the spring champions will be better in the summer. They played the Spring Split with one hand tied behind their back as Caps never looked fully comfortable in the bottom lane, and they are now roleswapping once more with Perkz moving back down to that position.

Schalke 04 -180

Team Vitality +143

Through the first three weeks of the 2020 LEC Spring Split, it looked like Schalke would be the worst team in the region. Their decision to bench Forg1ven in favor of Innaxe paid off handsomely though, and this team figures to be a playoff contender this summer.

Meanwhile, Vitality figures to be the worst team in the region yet again. They are rolling the dice with Milica in the mid lane after both Saken and Selfie failed to deliver in the spring, and the untested Nji will replace Mowgli in the jungle. It’s tough to be optimistic about this team given what we saw from them last split.

Origen -630

SK Gaming +421

SK Gaming made some major changes to their roster two weeks ago. The team parted ways with Sacre and moved former mid laner Jenax into the top lane, and then they signed Zazee from BIG to be their new mid laner. Given the lateness of those changes, they are the biggest underdogs of the week per the League of Legends betting odds, and rightfully so given their opponent.

The most predictable team in the LEC is Origen. They beat all the teams that are worse than them, but they struggle to beat Fnatic and G2. That makes it difficult to see a situation where SK Gaming somehow upset them, especially given their current roster situation and their play in the jungle as Trick does not fare well against proactive players like Xerxe.

Rogue -235

Excel Esports +183

Who knows what to make of Rogue? I believed that this squad was on the cusp of great things for much of the Spring Split, but they completely fell apart down the stretch despite their considerable talent. They made no changes to their roster or lineup during the break, yet despite their foibles, they should smash a team like Excel on Saturday.

Excel will be starting new players in the top lane and mid lane with Korean imports Expect and Mickey off the roster. Kryze is completely untested in the top lane, but Special was this organization’s mid laner last year. The only player of note on this roster is Patrik though, and he can’t carry this squad solo.

Fnatic -275

Misfits Gaming +211

Kobbe’s return to the LEC will be the story of the last game of the opening day. He was one of the region’s best bottom laners before singing with Team SoloMid at the end of last season, and he will be out to prove himself once more with this squad. Given what we saw out of Febiven and Razork last split, that could help Misfits pull off the upset over Fnatic this Friday.
