League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Playoffs Preview

We will know the four LEC teams that qualify for the League of Legends World Championships in Shanghai after this weekend. G2 Esports, Fnatic, and Rogue have all clinched their spots following strong regular seasons and/or performances in the postseason, leaving MAD Lions and FC Schalke 04 to fight for the last playoff spot in Europe. Meanwhile, G2 Esports and Fnatic will meet in the playoffs for what seems like the thousandth time over the last decade, and the winner will earn a spot in the 2020 LEC Summer Split Finals.

League of Legends 2020 LEC Summer Split Playoffs Betting Odds

MAD Lions -139

FC Schalke 04 +108

Schalke’s run to the playoffs was nothing short of remarkable. They won seven straight games to move from last place to sixth place in order to sneak into the playoff picture, and they kept their hopes of making Worlds alive with a 3-0 sweep of SK Gaming last weekend. Schalke have now won 10 straight games, so they are only a slight underdog to MAD Lions this week per the League of Legends betting odds.

The key to Schalke’s success has been Gilius. The veteran jungler has already had the talent, but he has finally developed chemistry with this team after replacing Lurox in the lineup. His play on a variety of champions has been solid, and his Hecarim was outstanding against SK Gaming last week. That’s good news for Schalke because MAD Lions have one of the best junglers in the league in Shadow.

Shadow was named the top jungler in Europe during the Summer Split. He was one of the breakout stars on the MAD Lions, and he was excellent on Lee Sin throughout the season. Although he fell off, along with the rest of the team, as the split dragged on, there’s little doubt that his match-up against Gilius in the jungle will go a long way to deciding this series.

The other big pivot point will be the mid lane matchup between Humanoid and Abbedagge. Humanoid was responsible for 30.9 percent of his team’s damage during the season, but Abbedagge was increasingly better as the season went on. However, MAD Lions have a big advantage in the bottom lane so that’s why you should take the favorite here.

G2 Esports -294

Fnatic +208

At this point, it must be frustrating for Fnatic any time they see G2 Esports sitting across from them. G2 have dominated this rivalry over the last two years, and they have won all seven games between these heavyweights in 2020. That has led to Fnatic becoming visibly flustered every time they meet, and we have seen some uncharacteristic mistakes from every team member save Rekkles as a result.

Rekkles is once again the heavy hitter for Fnatic. After taking something of a back seat in 2019, he has been the main carry for this squad in 2020. He is once again looking like the best bottom laner in the region, and his play is the reason why Fnatic will be going to Worlds. Everyone else on Fnatic aside from Selfmade has really struggled, but Rekkles has been outstanding.

It’s been the Caps show for G2. The former Fnatic mid laner has proven he is the most talented player in Europe once again, carrying the team for long stretches. He played strong carries in each of G2’s four games against MAD Lions in Round 1, and he responded by dealing 29.3 percent of his team’s damage per Games of Legends.

Nemesis has been playing better of late, but Wunder and Jankos are back in form, and G2’s past success points to a victory here.
