The 2020 LEC Spring Split started right where the 2019 season left off in Europe. G2 Esports showed that they are the best team in Europe by a wide margin by cruising to a 2-0 week with Perkz and Caps switching roles. It’s going to be difficult to knock off G2 Esports this season, but Origen look to have the best chance. Origen also went 2-0 in Week 2 with victories over Fnatic and FC Schalke 04.
League of Legends 2020 LEC Spring Split Week 2 Betting Odds
Excel Esports -175
Misfits Gaming +139
Misfits had one of the most disappointing starts to the season. Febiven was the only player that played well for the team in Week 1, posting a respectable 2.7 KDA in the mid lane in two losses. Top laner Dan Dan’s decision to take Nocturne into the top lane did not pay off, and the new bottom lane of Bvoy and Denyk left a lot to be desired. This might be the worst team in Europe, and that’s why they are an underdog per the League of Legends betting odds against Excel.
We saw Excel go 1-1 in Week 1, but they couldn’t get their power draft of Aphelios and Pantheon to pay dividends against Rogue. Mickey seems to be more of a team player than he was in the past though, which is promising for this team’s future, and Patrik was a heavy hitter in the bottom lane, doing 31.2 percent of his team’s damage according to Games of Legends. Those two players are why I like Excel to get the win.
MAD Lions -170
FC Schalke 04 +135
I’m going to take the chalk again in this game. MAD Lions were one of the most impressive teams in Week 1. Carzzy lived up to the hype as one of the best young AD Carries in Europe through the first week of the season, and Shadow showed some great intuition in the jungle against G2. They gave the defending champions a run for their money, but they couldn’t overcome an abysmal performance from mid laner Humanoid on Mordekaiser. Humanoid was more composed in his second game, and I expect him to keep that composure against a Schalke team largely made up of spare parts.
Rogue -165
Team Vitality +130
The most surprising team of Week 1 was Rogue. Rogue closed out the 2019 season on a tear, and they have kept that momentum going early in 2020. Larssen looks to be one of the best young mid laners we have seen in quite some time in the region, while Hans Sama dominated on new champions Senna and Aphelios in the bottom lane in Rogue’s two victories. There doesn’t appear to be a weak link on this team, while Vitality is undergoing growing pains with a largely new lineup.
Fnatic -440
SK Gaming +316
SK Gaming stunned Fnatic (twice) in the first game of the 2019 season, and they would love to send similar shockwaves through the LEC early in 2020. However, Fnatic poached SK’s star jungler Selfmade in the offseason, and Trick has not been nearly as explosive in that same position. Mid lane was supposed to improve with the acquisition of Jenax, but his paltry kill percentage of 41 percent in Week 1 is rather concerning, and Sacre can’t play tanks well. That’s why Fnatic is the right play even though this team is still overrated.
G2 Esports -260
Origen +201
This is the lone upset I like this week. G2 have shown a willingness to experiment with new things early in the season, and I believe they will try something different this week against Origen. The defending champions have nothing to prove in this game, while Origen have everything to prove to show they can beat the best in Europe. Origen looked fantastic in Week 1, and the play of Nukeduck and Upset was exquisite.
