League of Legends 2020 LEC Spring Split Playoffs Betting Preview

G2 Esports are odds-on favorites to win their seventh LEC title in the past nine splits. Winning the 2020 LEC Spring Split would draw G2 level with Fnatic as the most successful League of Legends organization in European history, and it’s going to be difficult to beat them in a double-elimination format after Fnatic and Origen both failed to beat them in the regular season. One of the latter two organizations will likely get their first shot at G2 next week in the winner’s bracket, but MAD Lions are out to play spoiler.

April 3

G2 Esports -850

MAD Lions +524

The reigning Mid-Season Invitational champions finished first in the Spring Split during the regular season, but they are not as indomitable as they were last year. G2 dropped three games over the Spring Split, and their last loss came against MAD Lions back in late February. In that game, Carzzy was unstoppable on Kalista and Humanoid was great on LeBlanc, while Perkz and Wunder had off games.

Although G2 have looked more vulnerable this season, their talent across the board means that one of their stars can carry even if the rest of the team is not playing well. We’ve seen Wunder, Perkz, and Caps all hard carry at different points throughout the split, and that talent advantage is going to be difficult to overcome.

MAD Lions’ best chance to pull off the upset is through the bottom lane. Caps hasn’t been as proficient in the bottom lane as Perkz was last year, and the Lions have one of the best young AD Carries in the league in Carzzy. The rookie has been excellent on Miss Fortune and Kalista, and he could lead the Lions to an upset in one game. However, it’s hard to see G2 dropping more than one game.

April 4

Fnatic -160

Origen +127

These teams split their two meetings in the regular season, but Fnatic are a justified favorite due to their pedigree and how they ended the Spring Split. They won eight of their last ten games to close out the spring, and their two losses were against No. 1 seed G2 and to Team Vitality in a meaningless game that saw 67 kills in 42 minutes.

Fnatic have more versatility than Origen, and it’s largely due to top laner Bwipo. Bwipo has played such off meta picks as Singed, Rengar, Swain, Urgot, and Zac into the top lane, making it hard to match up against him. Alphari doesn’t have near the versatility, playing either Renekton or Gangplank in half his games, giving Fnatic an edge.

This series should come down to drafting though as the talent at other positions is relatively even. There will be a lot of attention paid to the bottom lane matchup between Upset and Rekkles, but the better draft will carry the day, so live betting this series is the smart option.

April 5

Misfits Gaming -145

Rogue +115

Rogue have yet to win a game in the online format. They are 0-4 over the last two weeks, and their two losses to SK Gaming and FC Schalke 04 last week were alarming. Rogue just looked out of sorts in both games, as their top lane and bottom lane completely fell apart.

However, this team still has more individual talent than Misfits. Misfits’ jungler Razork has not looked sharp in the last couple weeks, and Dan Dan has not fared well on champions other than Aatrox in the top lane. At this price, Rogue is the right play, but this could be a 3-0 sweep for Misfits too considering what we’ve seen from Rogue.
