League of Legends 2020 LEC Spring Split Betting Preview

Fnatic and G2 Esports have combined to win 13 of the 14 European League of Legends titles contested since the founding of the regional LCS leagues in 2013. G2 have won six of the last eight championships, and it’s no surprise to see this team listed as the odds-on favorite per the League of Legends betting odds going into the 2020 LEC Spring Split after their dominance last year. They ran through every other squad in the region and became the first European team to win a major international competition when they claimed the Mid-Season Invitational. G2 brought that entire roster back to compete for international glory once again this year, and they are one of the favorites to win the 2020 World Championship.

G2’s decision to move Perkz into the bottom lane at the start of last season was the smartest move in League of Legends all year. Perkz shined in the role, turning G2 from a very good team into a world class squad. He shined on traditional bottom lane carries like Xayah and Kai’Sa, but he also showed that you can have success with mid lane picks too. Perkz had no problem forming a bond with support Mikyx either, making this the most dangerous bottom lane in Europe.

Those two players return alongside Caps, Jankos, and Wunder to make G2 the team to beat once more. All five players were chosen as First Team All-Star selections in 2019, and the biggest threat this team faces is complacency. They are undervalued at their current price since no other team in Europe can properly challenge G2.

Fnatic have the best chance at knocking them off, but it will be tough. Rekkles is not the same player he was a few years ago, and he can only play traditional AD Carries. He doesn’t have the versatility that Perkz does, but he can shine in the right meta.

The loss of Broxah isn’t as big of a deal as some are making it out to be considering Selfmade is replacing him, but it’s hard to believe that Nemesis is ready to challenge Caps in the mid lane. Nemesis did improve as last year went along, but he is still a tier below G2’s mid laner, and he is not ready to outplay him on a consistent basis. There are questions about new coach Mithy too, so stay away from Fnatic at this price.

Origen might be worth a bet though. This team has three excellent players in Xerxe, Nukeduck, and Upset, and they can take over games. Xerxe is a very smart jungler that has continually been one of the best in the region, and Upset performs very well on late game scaling champions. Nukeduck has the talent to be one of the best mid laners in Europe, so if he can stay consistent this team has a chance to knock off G2.

New support Destiny is a wildcard though. Destiny joined from the OPL, and although he was a great support there, it is a significantly weaker region than the LEC.

If you’re looking to play a longshot, take a long look at Rogue. This is a promising team with experienced veterans Hans Sama and Vander in the bottom lane, and laners Finn and Larssen came on strong as last year came to an end. Finn, Larssen, Inspired, and Vander have been together for a year too, giving this team the chemistry you want to see in a potential contender.
