League of Legends 2020 LCS Summer Split Week 1 Preview

League of Legends 2020 LCS Summer Split Week 1 Preview

The LCS returns to Summoner’s Rift on Friday night. After dismal ratings with putting the LCS on Monday night, the league is hoping to draw more eyeballs to League of Legends in North America with two games every Friday night in the 2020 LCS Summer Split. To that end, there will be a rematch of the Spring Split Finals on Friday as Cloud9 takes on FlyQuest in the second of two games. The most hyped game of the first week will certainly be Team Liquid vs. Team SoloMid on Saturday though.

LOL 2020 LCS Summer Split Week 1 Betting Odds

Friday

Evil Geniuses -155

100 Thieves +124

Evil Geniuses came on strong during the second half of the LCS Spring Split. They ended up claiming the No. 2 seed after a dismal start, and the play of Bang in the bottom lane helped this team reach new levels. He posted the second-best KDA in the LCS during the spring, and he played well with Zeyzal in the bottom lane.

The Thieves weren’t expected to make the postseason in the Spring Split with a revamped roster, but they outperformed expectations. Ssumday shined in the top lane, and Ryoma came on strong in his first season in the LCS. This team showed it has some tricks up its collective sleeve in the spring, so don’t be shocked if they draft an unusual composition and pull off the upset.

Cloud9 -440

FlyQuest +316

There’s no doubt that the team to beat is C9 ahead of the Summer Split. The organization put together the best split we’ve ever seen from a North American team in domestic play during the spring, and they have arguably the top player at every position in the region. Zven has completely rejuvenated his career since coming over from Team SoloMid, and there isn’t a weak point in the roster.

FlyQuest have an excellent mid laner in PowerOfEvil, but they don’t have a top laner that can go toe to toe with Licorice. Solo isn’t bad, he just doesn’t have the ability to win his lane against the best top laner in the region and that will be too much of a burden to overcome.

Saturday

Evil Geniuses -300

Counter Logic Gaming +228

The only truly bad team in the Spring Split was Counter Logic Gaming. CLG went 3-15, and their veteran lineup was often overmatched. They look set to go forward without any major changes, so it’s hard to project marked improvement with this organization unless Wind is a major upgrade over Stixxay in the bottom lane. With that in mind, lay the chalk with the Geniuses.

Team Liquid -120

Team SoloMid -110

The Doublelift Derby will be the most anticipated match of the weekend. Liquid’s former bottom laner returning to TSM was a huge story during the offseason, especially considering how it happened. TSM are crossing their fingers that a return to the past with players like Bjergsen, Doublelift, and Biofrost will take them back to the mountain top in this region, but all three legends appear to be on the downslope of their careers.

Meanwhile, Liquid may be better without Doublelift given his admitted motivation issues last split. Tactical played well when he was in the roster, and Broxah should perform better now that he has had some time to build rapport with Jensen and his other laners. Liquid is a great bet at this price.

FlyQuest -215

Immortals +168

Who knows what we’ll see from Immortals this split? The organization is not afraid to make changes in its lineup, and that will make this team hard to predict. There is talent, especially in the bottom lane with Apollo and Hakuho reunited, so they are a nice upset pick given that FlyQuest will likely focus on Cloud9 this Friday.

Golden Guardians -140

Dignitas +110

The underdog is the right play in the last match on Saturday too. Dignitas parted ways with Huni and replaced him with V1per during the break. V1per has a lot of raw talent that he still needs to develop, and a team with old school players like Dardoch, Froggen, and Aphromoo might be able to harness it the best. It’s hard to get excited about Golden Guardians given their roster, so jump at the chance to bet against them as a favorite.
