After putting together one of the best splits in the history of the LCS, Cloud9 is the odds-on favorite to win the 2020 LCS Summer Split. C9 went 17-1 in the regular season and only dropped one game in the postseason to finish the Spring Split with an overall record of 26-2. Team Liquid is still a contender after winning four straight splits prior to spring, while Team SoloMid made some big moves over the last month to try to get back to their winning ways.

Cloud9 finished first in the 2020 Spring Split by a record margin. The second-best team could only manage to go 10-8 as North America was extremely watered down outside of the eventual champions, and as such every player for Cloud9 was named First Team All-Pro.
Licorice continued to smash his opponents in the top lane, Blaber was named MVP for his performance in the jungle, and Nisqy grew by leaps and bounds in the mid lane. However, the biggest factor in this team’s surge was the bottom lane. Zven and Vulcan proved to be an excellent duo, and the former G2 Esports’ AD Carry proved that he was not the reason why TSM struggled so much the last two years. Reapered has been the best coach in the region since taking over C9, and his creative drafts make a repeat likely.
Not even the biggest Team Liquid detractor believed that this team would completely miss out on the playoffs in the spring. This team completely underachieved by finishing in ninth place with a 7-11 record, and they are hoping that less is more with the loss of Doublelift.
The greatest AD Carry in the history of North America was not himself in the spring. He admitted that he wasn’t as focused as he had been in the past, so Liquid will move forward with Tactical in the role. Tactical played well in limited action last split, and this team has the pieces to be C9’s biggest threat. Jensen is still one of the top mid laners in the region, and Broxah should perform better now that he has had time to develop chemistry with the rest of the roster.
There will be a lot of people rooting for TSM to lose every time they take the stage this summer. The Doublelift fiasco and their treatment of former jungler Dardoch has turned most neutral observers against them. This team is still talented though, and they will likely fare better than they did in the spring with Doublelift back on the roster.
Bjergsen is one of the most decorated mid laners in the history of the region, and Biofrost is a solid support. However, there are still some real concerns with his team. Top laner Broken Blade has been a roller coaster during his time in NA, and Spica is an unproven jungler making the leap from TSM’s academy team.
Evil Geniuses were the best team at the end of the regular season, but they were upset by FlyQuest in the playoffs and finished in third place. This organization made a big move of its own by deciding to acquire top laner Huni, yet they will have some interesting lineup decisions to make due to the composition of their roster.
Teams are only allowed to start two players from outside their region, and Huni has yet to receive his NA residency. With mid laners Jiizuke and Giyuu locking down one international spot, that means Huni can only start if bottom laner Bang is out of the lineup. Bang was Evil Geniuses’ most reliable player in the spring, so it’s unlikely he will be subbed out.
Don’t be surprised if Dignitas make some noise in the summer. This team has the biggest chip on its shoulder with Dardoch and V1per looking to prove themselves after being dumped by their teams last month. V1per has a lot of raw talent that has yet to be fully fleshed out, and Johnsun should play better after an iffy performance in the spring.
