League of Legends 2020 LCS Summer Split Playoffs Round 2

Everyone is expecting to see Cloud9 and Team Liquid meet with a spot in the LCS Summer Split Finals on the line. These two teams have been the best in North America throughout the summer, and they are both substantial favorites per the League of Legends betting odds this week. Golden Guardians have already pulled off one upset with their win over Team SoloMid, so they are hoping to find another this week. Meanwhile, FlyQuest are looking to grab a modicum of revenge after getting blasted by Cloud9 in the Spring Split Finals.

Cloud9 -526

FlyQuest +338

It was a difficult second half of the season for C9. After finishing the first round robin unbeaten, this team went 4-5 over the second round robin as other teams finally started figuring out how to keep them from snowballing in the early game. Their only victory over a team with a winning record came against FlyQuest, and C9 are now 7-0 against FlyQuest in 2020.

Their biggest advantage lies in the top lane. Licorice has repeatedly been able to get the better of Solo throughout the year, and he has a huge mechanical edge over his counterpart. Solo did play well against Evil Geniuses last week, especially on Mordekaiser and Shen, but those champions aren’t hard to counter for a player of Licorice’s talent.

The most important matchup will be in the jungle. Santorin posted an insane 23 KDA in the first round of the playoffs, and he was seen as the best jungler in the league by some during the regular season. However, Blaber is the reigning Spring Split MVP. Blaber has been rock solid throughout the year, and his ability to play a multitude of champions give C9 a lot of flexibility.

Zven and Vulcan are one of the best bottom lanes in the league, but WildTurtle and Ignar have stepped up their game for FlyQuest. That gives the underdogs a decent chance to pull off the upset.

Team Liquid -556

Golden Guardians +345

Doublelift wasn’t the main problem for Liquid in the Spring Split, but his departure allowed Tactical to emerge as one of the best bottom laners in the LCS. Tactical posted a 7.1 KDA while being responsible for 31.7 percent of Liquid’s damage per Games of Legends, and he showed he can play traditional champions like Ashe and Ezreal. He also a former World Champion in support with CoreJJ, so that has helped the learning curve.

The decision to bring in Broxah from the LEC paid dividends, as he looked much better after being able to practice with the team for a few months. He led the team with a 7.8 KDA, but he only played four champions during the Summer Split. That has led to some questions about his champion pool even though he is one of the most experienced junglers in the region.

Closer was one of the keys to the Golden Guardians’ upset of TSM, so he is one of the players to highlight for them this time around too. However, the real catalyst was Damonte, as his play on Ziggs was superb. He used the champion to outrange Bjergsen, creating problems for TSM late in the game with his abilities and ultimate.

For the Golden Guardians to pull off the upset, FBI and Huhi will have to hold their own in the bottom lane. They have played very well given what was expected from them at the start of the season, but it’s likely too much to ask for them to match Tactical and CoreJJ.
