League of Legends 2019 KeSPA Cup Betting Preview

The KeSPA Cup has traditionally been a springboard for smaller organizations to launch themselves into the forefront of the League of Legends community. Griffin used last year’s KeSPA Cup to showcase that they were one of the premier teams in Korea prior to the 2019 LCK season, and other teams are looking to do the same this year. Plenty of teams will be showcasing their new rosters in this competition over the next two weeks, and we’ll get a glimpse of which teams could be surprise contenders and which teams might have more work to do before the start of the 2020 LCK Spring Split.

League of Legends 2019 KeSPA Cup Betting Odds

Afreeca Freecs -3333
Rockhead +742

Afreeca Freecs’ problems were in the mid lane and bottom lane this year. Kiin was fantastic in the top lane, carrying this team to winds almost single-handedly at times, but the play elsewhere was somewhat suspect. The organization brought Mystic back to Korea to fill the AD Carry role, and it will be interesting to see how his style will work in the LCK. Mystic has been playing in the LPL for the last five years, and the bottom lanes in those regions are traditionally much more aggressive. The Freecs signed a mid laner known for his roaming in Fly, so they are likely to try to play through the bottom lane more against Rockhead.

KT Rolster -1667
KeG Ulsan +587

KT’s fall from grace has been stunning. They might be the worst team in the LCK in 2020 after coming apart at the seams last year, and the roster changes aren’t very inspiring. They signed three former Afreeca Freecs’ members in Kuro, Aiming, and TusiN, and KT rounded out its lineup with iffy junglers and top laners. This team isn’t competing for the postseason in 2020, and we’ve seen amateur teams surprise at this stage in previous years. If one of the LCK teams falls in the first round, it will be the rollercoaster.

Hanwha Life Esports -10000
ESC Ever +891

Hanwha’s roster construction this offseason was fascinating. They landed one of the best supports in the region in Lehends, but they paired him with arguably the worst bottom laner in Zenit. They brought in a veteran that can do it all in Cuvee, but the mid lane is something of a mess with Tempt and Lava vying for the starting role.

ESC has a former LCK player in MooJin, but this team is too raw and inexperienced to take advantage of Hanwha. MooJin could get first blood though and put a bit of a scare into Hanwha.

Gen.G -2500
GC Busan Ascension +685

The decision to go with Life at support once again might backfire on Gen.G in the long run, but this is a solid team that should cruise to a win over GC Busan Ascension. Bdd had a down year, yet he is still a superb mid laner, and Ruler is one of the most dependable bottom laners in Korea. Clid will spice things up in the jungle, giving this team the smart aggression in the early game it needed, and this team will surprise some opponents in 2020.

DragonX -10000
Chungnam +915

Rebranded DragonX made the biggest splash of free agency by acquiring Chovy. Chovy was incredible on Griffin last year, racking up a KDA over 100 at one point last spring, and his play made Griffin a contender at Worlds. We know how it all ended for the upstart organization, but cvMax comes over as DragonX’s coach as well to make this team one of the elite teams in the LCK. Chungnam will get steamrolled here.

Jin Air Greenwings -263
Spear Gaming +172

Everyone is hoping the sadplane.jpg is retired for good with Jin Air. Jin Air had the worst record in the history of the LCK in 2019 and were mercifully relegated at the end of the year. It’s going to take some time for this once proud organization to rebuild, but everyone will be rooting for them against Spear Gaming.
