Electronic Sports Picks - CS:GO ECS Season Six First Day

By  Jonathan Willis

Thursday, November 22nd, 2018

The action is a little light in the Esports world this week as North America celebrates Thanksgiving, but there are still a few competitions going on and prize money to be won. The big event this week is the ECS Season Six Finals, which kick off on Thursday, and there is plenty of cash to be distributed in that event. Astralis are the big favorite coming into the competition after winning six different tournaments and over $2 million worth of prize money this season, but others will be out to knock them off their pedestal. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the action.

2018 CS:GO ECS Season Six First Day Betting Odds

Astralis: -510

Cloud9: +375

Over the course of the season, Astralis have been pretty fantastic. The Danes have been the best CS:GO team in the world in 2018, and they already have six titles to their name. They were the odds-on favorites to win this event before it all got underway, and few people believe that Cloud9 will give them much trouble.

Cloud9 were only invited to this competition after Renegades backed out due to visa issues. Renegades had finished in second place during the North America ECS Season Six regular season, and they were seen as a real contender, but Cloud9 are largely an also-ran now that Skadoodle and Stewie2K are no longer on the team. Those two players helped make Cloud9 a legitimate contender earlier in the season, but their departure led to a miniature collapse.

Astralis have been incredibly successful, and they deserve to be a massive favorite here after going 17-1 during the regular season. They have not missed a beat since Kjaerbye left to join North, and Magisk has more than filled the hole that their former player left behind. The trio of dev1ce, dupreeh, and Xyp9x have been with the team since the beginning, and they continue to make this team one of the best in the world.

Mousesports: -130

MiBR: +105

I was a little surprised to see Mousesports as a relatively short favorite over MiBR in this scenario. Mousesports have looked like one of the best teams in CS:GO recently. They defeated Team Liquid to win first place at ESL One: New York two months ago, and they are currently rated the fifth-best team in the world according to the rankings at Gosu Gamers.

Meanwhile, MiBR have been an interesting team to follow since their break from SK Gaming. They don’t have the name or the resources of the former champions, but they are a team filled with veterans that know how to win games. I don’t like them in this particular match-up, but I’ll probably grab them at another time during this tournament.

Ninjas in Pyjamas: -115

NRG: -105

Anyone thinking that North American CS:GO teams are on the same level as European teams need to look at the odds in this match-up. Ninjas in Pyjamas were the fourth-best team in Europe during the regular season of ECS, and they just barely qualified for this event. Meanwhile, NRG were the top North American team in the standings, yet they are still a slight underdog here.

With that being said, I like NRG’s chances at these odds. NRG have plenty of experience playing together, and that will help them out against the all-Swedish NiP.

Team Liquid: -205

North: +170

Many people are high on Team Liquid coming into this competition, but I don’t think this team is as strong as others believe they are. Liquid have had some good results in recent months, but they are still behind both Astralis and Mousesports, and they shouldn’t be favored by this much over North. I like North’s chances as an underdog.
