The most anticipated event of All-Star Weekend is the 1v1 Tournament featuring 32 of the top players in the world. Since its inception in 2015, this has been the most talked about part of the weekend as rivals from around the world square off for bragging rights and the chance to say they knocked off one of the best players in the game today. This event features players that play a variety of roles, and usually mid laners and AD Carries are heavy favorites given their positions on the team. Seeing a top laner, jungler, or even a support win would be a welcome change and show that anyone can win one of these events.

Given his past, Uzi has to be the favorite to win the 1v1 event. Royal Never Give Up’s superstar AD Carry has won each of the last two competitions, and he is widely considered the most mechanically gifted player in the game today. He was shockingly upset by a support player (Kasing) in the inaugural tournament back in 2015, but he gears up for this event like no other player and makes it a point to win. He was tested by both Pray and Bjergsen last year, but neither player will be at this year’s event and you could argue he should be a shorter favorite.
Fellow LPL sensation Rookie is the next favorite. He has been heralded as the best mid laner in the world after leading Invictus Gaming to the 2018 World Championship, and he consistently outplayed his fellow mid laners during the tournament. However, in his one previous entry into the 1v1 Tournament back in 2015, he was knocked off by relative unknown LeX. There is also the question of how seriously he will take the competition after winning Worlds, and I think there are better options on the board. It’s not a question of talent, but one of motivation, and I’d be surprised to see him more than two matches.
Caps is one of my favorite plays on the board at this price. G2’s new mid laner is the most talented player at his position in Europe, and he has the personality where he will want to prove himself on this stage. He loves to get the better of his opponent in 1v1’s and he will want to show his proficiency after becoming more of a team player this past season. This is Caps’ first time at the 1v1 Tournament, and I would bet that he has readied himself for this more than almost anyone else.
If you’re looking for a longer shot, there’s another European mid laner with nice odds that will probably take this event more seriously than others. Jiizuke made a name for himself with his sick outplays in the Spring Split, and that led to him being named Rookie of the Split and culminated in his first trip to All-Stars. He has a lot of unique champions that other pros don’t see too often, and he will be sure to have some surprises in store.
