A previous champion is now guaranteed to win the CBLOL Spring Split title following the surprising results of the semifinals. Vivo Keyd was a considerable favorite over KaBum Esports in the first semifinal after finishing the season in first place. KaBuM needed to play an extra game in order to qualify for the postseason, but they proved they belong in the playoffs by smashing Vivo Keyd 3-0 last weekend. Meanwhile, Flamengo Esports took care of business against FURIA Uppercut, sweeping them 3-0 to force a rematch of the 2018 Split 2 Finals with KaBuM.

Flamengo knocked off KaBuM in two of their three regular season meetings, but they aren’t that big of a favorite over a team that finished the regular season at .500. KaBuM’s convincing sweep of top seed Vivo Keyd has many believing this team is peaking at the right time, and that they will knock off Flamengo to win their fourth CBLOL title, tying INTZ for the most all-time in the region.
The most dominant player on Summoner’s Rift on this series is likely to be Flamengo’s jungler Ranger. Ranger was sharp during the regular season, but he took things to another level in the semifinals with three insane performances to get his team ahead. He finished the three-game series with a whopping 18.5 KDA per Games of Legends, and he was responsible for 17.8 percent of his team’s damage. Ranger was lights out on his famous Lee Sin, and he proved that he can play the suddenly popular Graves too.
KaBuM’s Korean import Wiz will look to match Ranger in the jungle. Wiz wasn’t as explosive as Ranger in the playoffs, but he showed his reliability with solid games on Trundle, Graves, and Lee Sin. He shined on the first of the three picks, yet his low kill percentage leaves something to be desired of a jungler. Despite the reputation of Korean players, Wiz didn’t shine in the TCL last year, and he just doesn’t make the same impact as Ranger.
Wiz’s Korean teammate Parang was the huge difference maker that KaBuM were counting on though. Parang was the MVP of their semifinals series with a team-high 7.5 KDA in the top lane, and he was responsible for an absurd 35.4 percent of his team’s damage over those three games. He showed he could carry on Vladimir, and his off-meta pick of Yorick into the top lane worked wonders. That’s something that Flamengo must game plan against on Saturday.
WooFe is a wild card in the top lane. He was primarily a tank player for Flamengo, but he did shine in individual games on Jayce, Lucien, and Rumble. However, he was not consistent on his favorite champion Renekton, posting a paltry 2.0 KDA on the vicious crocodile in five games. His Neeko pocket pick was excellent in the semifinals though, and he did the plurality of his team’s damage in the semis.
The mid-lane battle could decide this series, as the bottom lanes for both teams are nothing to write home about. Tutsz has shown an incredible amount of versatility in the mid lane with his diverse champion pool, but Goku has been called the best mid laner in the region for a couple years now. Flamengo completely reconstructed their team around him in the offseason, letting long-time stars like brTT and Shrimp go, and he has rewarded them for their faith.
In the end, I think Ranger will impact the lanes too much in the early game, and that will give Flamengo a consistent advantage that they can snowball forward in the mid and late game.
