The LPL is the most competitive league in the world when it comes to League of Legends. China has fully embraced League of Legends, and there are a whopping 17 teams in the LPL compared to 10 for most other regions.
The top teams in the LPL aren’t afraid to pay for talent, and that’s why the battle for the region’s four spots in the League of Legends World Championship will be so intense this split.
2022 League of Legends LPL Summer Split Week 1 Betting Odds
Weibo Gaming -456
Invictus Gaming +317
Many were expecting Weibo Gaming to be one of the best teams in the LPL this year. They added a superstar lineup this offseason by bringing in TheShy, SofM, Angel, Huanfeng, and SwordArt, but they were unable to make the final four in the LPL Spring Split Playoffs after losing a close five-game series with JD Gaming.
Weibo has not been able to gel as a team, and TheShy did not play well in the spring. That led to the team promoting Decade from its LDL squad, so there are real concerns about the top lane for Weibo. Former world champions Invictus Gaming are in a full rebuild though, and it’s hard to see IG pulling out a win here. They went 5-11 in the spring and aren’t ready to be competitive.
EDward Gaming -335
FunPlus Phoenix +245
This will be one of the most entertaining matches of the first week. Defending world champions Edward Gaming underperformed in the spring, and they are looking to make amends for their performance with a strong start to the Summer Split. They now have their full team from last year’s title run, and Viper and Meiko are one of the best bottom lanes in the league.
FunPlus Phoenix are an intriguing team. They decided to press the rebuild button after crashing out of last year’s World Championships, losing Nuguri, Doinb, Tian, and Crisp. Still, they were competitive and made the playoffs in the spring, and they could turn some heads this season.
Rare Atom -178
Anyone’s Legend +138
Although Rare Atom made the playoffs last split, they aren’t a big favorite over Anyone’s Legend on Saturday. That’s because Anyone’s Legend finished with a better overall KDA in the spring per Games of Legends, so many will be calling on the upset here.
A shift in the meta could help Anyone’s Legend as well since experienced bottom laner Betty didn’t seem too comfortable on either Jinx or Aphelios in the spring. Rare Atom did not have a strong bottom lane as iBoy looks to be past his prime, and this team relied on mid laner Strive to carry them last split.
Top Esports -186
JD Gaming +144
The talk of Kanavi being the best jungler in the world has dissipated significantly, but there’s no doubt that he is still an elite player and will always make JD Gaming competitive against any opponent. Hope and Missing are a solid bottom lane tandem, and 369 is a quality top laner. The major question for JDG in this series is whether or not Yagao can hold up in the mid lane.
Top Esports boasts one of the best mid laners in the world in Knight. The former MVP posted a 5.7 KDA last split with a 29.5% kill percentage per Games of Legends, and supremely talented JackeyLove is alongside him in the bottom lane. If Wayward can hold his own in the top lane, this team should win and will be one of the favorites to win the LPL Summer Split.
