2021 LOL Mid-Season Invitational Group Stage Day 2

2021 LOL Mid-Season Invitational Group Stage Day 2

The League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational will kick off on Thursday, May 6. The Group Stage will last six days from May 6-11 with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Rumble.

There is a clear gap between the teams from the major regions and everyone else, but we usually see a few surprises.

2021 LOL Mid-Season Invitational Group Stage Day 2 Odds

Royal Never Give Up -1718

Pentanet.GG +700

It’s hard to see Pentanet defeating Royal Never Give Up in any of their four meetings in Group A. These teams will be playing quadruple round robins after GAM Esports had to bow out of MSI due to COVID restrictions, and Pentanet is clearly the weakest team in this group. Oceania is one of the worst regions historically in international tournaments, and they only got weaker after it was announced that OCE players would not count as imports in North America.

RNG have an advantage at every position. It’s hard to lay a lot of juice, but this is one of the situations that warrants it given RNG’s strong play in the LPL.

Royal Never Give Up -1076

Unicorns of Love +545

The Unicorns of Love are one of the dark horses to watch entering MSI. Unicorns of Love play a frenetic style, and we have seen CIS teams give opponents trouble in the past. It’s likely that they beat RNG in one of their four meetings, so this is a nice opportunity to bet on UoL. They have a lot of experience from their trip to Worlds last year with four of five starters returning from that team.

DWG KIA -2757

Infinity Esports +852

Can WhiteLotus finally make it out of the group stage at an international tournament? That’s one of the biggest subplots entering this year’s MSI considering his dominance in Latin America. WhiteLotus has won titles with Kaos Latin Gamers, Lyon Gaming, and Rainbow7, but he has yet to take his game to the next level.

An upset win over DWG KIA would mean a lot for both WhiteLotus and Infinity. However, it’s going to be very difficult to beat DWG KIA when they have something to play for at this event. DWG KIA are the defending world champions and the most talented team in the world. If they have a weakness, it’s at AD Carry, so WhiteLotus will have to be at his best for Infinity to pull out a win.

Cloud9 -441

DetonatioN FocusMe +292

This is the best bet of the day. Although DetonatioN FocusMe added a Korean import in the mid lane with Aria, they have shown they don’t have what it takes to succeed against teams from major regions. The oddsmakers and bettors are too down on Cloud9 because of the “LCS is bad” narrative, but while the region has weakened, it is still a cut above all non-major regions.

MAD Lions -413

Istanbul Wildcats +277

If you are going to bet against a Western team on Friday, MAD Lions is the team you want to fade. They looked strong in knocking off G2 and Rogue, but their fortunes rose and fell with the meta. Armut was one of the best rookies in the LEC Spring Split, yet his Turkish counterparts may know how to counter him after his time in the TCL.

PSG Talon -277

Pain Gaming +199

The other best bet on Friday is PSG Talon. This team is a lot stronger than you might think since they were able to get an infusion of cash from Paris Saint-Germain. They might be ready to make the PCS a major region, just as the LMS was a major region a few years ago. The popularity of Brazilian teams has heavy influenced these odds.
