2021 LEC Summer Split Week 4 Preview

After months of rumors regarding the loss of FC Schalke 04 Esports from the LEC, news broke that their spot in the league was bought by Team BDS for over $30 million earlier this week. Schalke will play out the rest of the Summer Split, and Team BDS will take over in earnest in 2022.

It will be interesting to see how Schalke’s players respond over the coming weeks.

2021 LEC Summer Split Week 4 Betting Odds

Team Vitality -308

Astralis +217

We saw Vitality look great in Week 3. They knocked off both G2 Esports and MAD Lions to move to 4-3 in the Summer Split, and they are now tied with Misfits Gaming for the second-longest win streak. Selfmade has done a great job in the jungle since joining at the start of the split, but Crownshot has played really well in the bottom lane too.

Astralis aren’t as bad as their detractors make them out to be, but they aren’t that good either. The bottom lane of Promisq and Jeskla is mediocre at best, and Zanzarah isn’t a great jungler. MagiFelix is strong in the mid lane, yet that’s not enough to go with the underdog here.

Rogue -590

SK Gaming +365

The first three weeks of the Summer Split haven’t been good to Rogue mid laner Larssen. He has the worst KDA on the team (2.9 KDA), and his Jayce play in the mid lane hasn’t been good. Larssen is seen by some as the best mid laner in Europe, so more is expected from him.

SK Gaming won’t be able to compete with Rogue though. SK have the worst record in the league with their lone win coming against Excel Esports, and they have very predictable drafts. This game might not last 25 minutes.

MAD Lions -141

Misfits Gaming +106

The defending champions have had their share of struggles in the Summer Split. Armut has had a hard time in the top lane with a 2.2 KDA per Games of Legends, and the bottom lane hasn’t been great either. If not for some great play from Humanoid on Akali, MAD Lions would have a losing record.

That makes 6-1 Misfits Gaming a juicy underdog. Many pundits are still dismissing Misfits, but they have played out of this world through three weeks. Vetheo has an absurd 13.5 KDA in the mid lane, and Hirit is playing very well in the top lane and leads the team in damage output.

Excel Esports +344

G2 Esports -545

After losing both their matches last week, G2 Esports is back to the drawing board in Week 4. In the past, this is where G2 would start to turn things around, but this team clearly isn’t as overpowering as we have seen in the past.

It’s hard to feel too confident in Excel, yet they have a decent shot to pull off the upset. As long as Dan doesn’t get too far behind in the jungle, they have the potential to deal G2 its third straight loss.

Fnatic -277

FC Schalke 04 Esports +197

Fnatic may have lost its first two matches of the Summer Split, but they have been a team on a mission since that point. They have won five straight games, as the decision to move Bwipo into the jungle continues to look like an inspired swap.

Bwipo should have his way with Schalke jungler Kirei. Kirei has just a 1.5 KDA and has been quite unsuccessful at ganks. He won’t be able to put his teammates ahead, and Fnatic will take advantage.
