The two most storied organizations in League of Legends will meet in the 2020 Spring Split Finals this Saturday. T1 is the most successful team in the history of the Esport. They have won three World Championships, and they have the best player in the history of the game in Faker. As SK Telecom T1, they won six LCK titles, and they are looking to win their third straight split championship. However, one of the few teams that has constantly given them a run for their money is Gen. G. Before they were rebranded as Gen. G, this organization was known as Samsung Galaxy, and they claimed two World Championships, including a sweep of SKT in the 2017 Worlds Finals. This is a heavyweight title fight for the ages.
Gen. G +124
T1 -155
T1 are the favorites despite finishing behind Gen. G in the regular season. Both teams were 14-4, but Gen. G won the tiebreaker by virtue of a +18 game score compared to a +16 game score from T1. That led to Gen. G earning a direct bye into the Spring Split Finals, while T1 needed to beat DragonX to ensure their spot.
The matchup to watch in this series is in the bottom lane. Ruler and Teddy have been the two best AD Carry players in Korea for the last few years, and they have been the hard carries for their teams throughout the Spring Split. Teddy led T1 with a 6.9 KDA, and he was exceptional on Miss Fortune and Kalista. He was on one of those two champions in over 60 percent of T1’s games, so you will likely see him focus on those two champions in the finals too. Teddy showed that he can play fasting Senna in the semifinals against DragonX as well, so that’s something Gen. G must prepare for on Saturday.
Miss Fortune will be a hotly contested pick as it is Ruler’s favorite champion too. Ruler finished the Spring Split with a 7.2 KDA, but he wasn’t as sharp on Miss Fortune as his counterpart with a 50 percent win rate and a 5.6 KDA. However, his play on Ezreal, Kalista, Aphelios, and Kai’Sa was exceptional. Additionally, he has shown strong play on Senna too, and that will lead to a very interesting pick and ban phase.
Of course, everyone will be focused on the mid lane too. Faker is the greatest player of all time, and he is still playing at an incredibly high level. He popped off on Corki in SKT’s playoff victory over DragonX, and he finished the regular season with a 5.6 KDA. His LeBlanc play is absurd and has led to constant bans as Faker has a 13.0 KDA on the champion in six games.
Bdd has benefited greatly from a change of scenery. He was obviously frustrated on KT Rolster last year, but he has reinvigorated his career this season with Gen. G. The star mid laner finished the season with a 6.7 KDA while showcasing pocket picks like Neeko, Zilean, and Pantheon over the course of the Spring Split. His most prevalent champions were Azir and Zoe though with a whopping 24 games on both champions.
The x-factor will be the jungle play of T1’s Cuzz and Gen. G’s Clid. Cuzz was the MVP of the series against DragonX earlier this week with a 17.5 KDA.in four games, and he broke out a Graves pick that really shined in Game 1. Meanwhile, Clid would love to knock off his former team after leaving T1 in the offseason. He has not played the most popular champions (Gragas and Lee Sin) often this split, instead hopping on Jarvan IV or RekSai for over half his games. Mid lane synergy will be very important, so don’t be surprised to see a Jarvan/Galio or a Yasuo/Gragas combination from one of these teams at some point.
At this price, Gen. G is the play. Gen. G lost both of its regular season series to T1 by a scoreline of 2-1, but both series were incredibly close. Here’s hoping the third time is the charm.
