Three teams are battling it out for two spots in the knockout rounds of the 2019 League of Legends World Championship when Group D closes out the Group Stage on Sunday. DAMWON Gaming, Invictus Gaming, and Team Liquid all have their sights set on a spot in the quarterfinals, while ahq e-Sports Club is out to play spoiler after losing every match of the first round-robin.
2019 League of Legends World Championship Group D Betting Odds
Invictus Gaming -165
Team Liquid +140
In the first game between these two teams, Liquid had the lead for most of the way. Xmithie and Doublelift were helping get the bottom lane ahead, and it appeared that the North American champions would knock off the defending world champions. That is until TheShy took over on Vladimir, crushing his top lane counterpart Impact.
Invictus have been inconsistent all year, so it’s hard to trust them too much. However, at this price, you have to trust the LPL side. Invictus have more talent than Liquid, and both TheShy and Rookie proved they can win hard carry in their lanes in the comeback victory.
DAMWON Gaming -450
ahq e-Sports Club +365
Speaking of inconsistent, DAMWON might be the most volatile team at Worlds. DAMWON’s upside is tremendous, but their understanding of the game leaves a lot to be desired.
Their individual skill was too much for ahq despite a close early game the first time around, and it’s hard to see a way that the LMS side knocks off DAMWON. The Korean side gave a C+ effort, and it would take a shocking collapse to see them lose this one.
Invictus Gaming -650
ahq Esports Club +500
Invictus played a messy game against ahq earlier this week, but they still prevailed without even taking one Baron. Rainbow was sharp on Akali, giving Rookie a challenge in the mid lane, but the rest of ahq did not play well. The bottom lane in particular was an issue with Ysera dying four times on Nautilus, so it didn’t matter that Invictus’ bottom lane of Ezreal and Alistar wasn’t great.
At this price, ahq might be worth a few bucks. Invictus’ lows are lower than DAMWON’s lows, and a bad performance from TheShy could spell doom.
DAMWON Gaming -160
Team Liquid +130
The Yasuo and Gragas mid lane and jungle duo is an LCK special, and it found some success against Liquid in their previous meeting. However, a horrendous performance from DAMWON’s bottom lane led to Liquid upsetting DAMWON.
Doublelift popped off on Kai’Sa in the win, and Liquid’s bottom lane can outplay Nuclear and BeryL. If Impact and Jensen can keep Nuguri and ShowMaker from taking over, Liquid can use Doublelift as their primary win condition once again to upset the LCK side.
Invictus Gaming -135
DAMWON Gaming +115
This is the match that everyone will be wanting to see. Canyon’s fantastic play in the jungle helped DAMWON knock off Invictus in the first meeting between these squads, but there was an unlikely catalyst in DAMWON’s win. Nuclear put together his best performance of Worlds so far, crushing his bottom lane counterpart JackeyLove to ensure that there was a three-way tie atop the standings entering the second round-robin.
The solo laners will again be the focus this time. Invictus will likely ban away Kayle after ShowMaker used the champion to influence team fights continually, but both teams are probably going to prioritize the mid lane and top lane.
Team Liquid -550
ahq e-Sports Club +420
A win over ahq could lift Liquid to the knockout rounds of Worlds for the first time in team history. Doublelift has been out to get to this point, and his play this year has been fantastic. He has avoided the mistakes that have plagued him in the past, and he will lead Liquid to a win here.
