Rocky Fielding vs. Saul Alvarez - Online Boxing Picks

Perhaps no boxer on Earth gets as much love, attention, and betting action than Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and with plenty of good reason. As Canelo is hitting the prime of his career, he is one of the top draws and personalities in the sport. Beyond that he is also among the most capable fighters in the fight game. With just one loss in his entire career, five years ago against the famed and undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr, Alvarez has continued to gain notoriety and fame for his championship record and a resume that is among the most impressive in any sport. Canelo will be taking on current “active” champion Rocky Fielding for the World Boxing Association world super middleweight title.

Rocky Fielding vs. Canelo Alvarez Fight Preview

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has always dreamed of fighting at Madison Square Garden for a championship as he correctly assesses NYC as the “Mecca of Boxing.” That is why this upcoming bout against Rocky Fielding is one of the most important and meaningful of his career.

“We’ve been wanting a fight in New York for several years,” said Alvarez. “It’s been offered to us many times but for whatever reason it didn’t happen. But now we have the opportunity to be there and for me its motivation, another chapter in my career. Being at Madison Square Garden, where well known boxers like Muhammad Ali have fought. It’s a great accomplishment for me.”

Alvarez was convinced to take on Fielding because not only was it an opportunity to fight in New York but it was also an opportunity for Canelo to win his third title in a different division.

“They told me about the opportunity to win a title at 168 pounds and be one of just 10 Mexicans to win titles in three divisions,” said Canelo.

Alvarez’s trainer, Eddy Reynoso, was instrumental in putting this idea of a championship fight with Fielding together.

Canelo also sees this championship bout as an opportunity to better connect with his sizeable fan base.

“What’s most important, as a team we always say it, is to be able to give a nod to the fans,” Canelo confirmed. “That appealed to us a lot, that they pay less to see Canelo fight. That was appealing to me, because a lot of people who like boxing couldn’t see one because they didn’t have the means. Now, with this, well, I liked the idea a lot.”

The way the deal works is that fans will not have to pay $70 for a single pay per view fight but instead they will be charged $10 per month by DAZN. Not that Canelo isn’t getting something out of it. Indeed, he inked a $365 million deal with DAZN.

Canelo is the former super welterweight champion that had to overcome a lot to defeat Gennady Golovkin last September in a rematch after the duo fought to a draw in their first matchup.

“My team and I accomplished a lot,” said Alvarez. “We feel proud about that and it serves as great motivation for me. We knew without a doubt that we could do it, but that was a great night for us as a team.”
