Naoya Inoue vs Jason Moloney Preview

Inoue turned pro a little over eight years ago, and he showcased tremendous power despite his frame. He secured knockout wins in eight of his first nine fights, and he claimed the WBO junior-bantamweight title with a second-round knockout of Omar Narvaez.

We saw Inoue defend that belt seven times before challenging Jamie McDonnell for the WBA bantamweight belt in May 2018. That was Inoue’s toughest test to that point, and he aced it with flying colors. Inoue secured a first-round TKO in under two minutes.

Later that year, Inoue announced that he would take part in the World Boxing Super Series. That eight-boxer event showcased the best bantamweights in the world, and the young Japanese boxer proved he was the best in his division. He had no trouble with Juan Carlos Payano and Emmanuel Rodriguez, dispatching of both fighters within two rounds and claiming the IBF and The Ring titles against the latter boxer.

Nonito Dolaire gave Inoue all he could handle in the final though. Inoue was unable to knockout his opponent for the first time since May 2016, and he was punished in a unanimous decision victory. He suffered a broken orbital bone and a broken nose, and this is his first fight since that bout.

Moloney was also involved in the World Boxing Super Series. The Australian bantamweight wanted to prove himself, so he left the Down Under for the first time in his professional career as a boxer. Unfortunately, he lost a split decision to Emmanuel Rodriguez in his first bout, knocking him out of the competition.

That was the first loss of his career, but he has bounced back since that point. He secured knockouts in each of his next four bouts, and he dispatched of Leonardo Baez easily back in June. This will be his biggest test by a considerable margin though, as Inoue is considered the best in the division.
